Tokyo 2020 Olympics/Paralympics

At times they were there for the taking but for large parts of this game poor White was left to struggle up front by herself.
This team, and City Women take an age getting the ball up to the oppo's pen area! Any team that's patient, has a striker who doesn't need ten chances to score, and maintains a measure of defensive solidity, will put any GB/England Womens' to the sword. I'm hoping that when the women get back to the Academy we have improved at getting the ball quickly to where it causes teams some damage. I think that GB/England teams exhibit a pattern where the sum is not as good as the parts.

Genuinely awful defending as a team from Great Britain.

Lack of athleticism on a big pitch was a factor, the ball travels far too quickly for the athleticism in the women’s game to keep up with on big pitches.

But that makes the coaching of the defensive unit even worse. There was very little in the way of defending as a unit, closing down/pressing as a unit, dropping deep as a unit… they defended as individuals half the time or just the defence that defended.

They just allowed pressure to build on themselves when it wasn’t needed. They had to close down or tackle off the cuff and free kicks and corners were given away too much.

Passing was far too slow n’all. With an obsession in turning around and passing backwards when the ball needs to go towards the opposition’s goal; epitomised by the final seconds of the game when the defence had the ball, they passed it backwards when they needed a goal - twice - when under no pressure.

A very frustrating game of football to watch.

City Women have played like that for a couple of seasons. We'd score twice the goals if we shifted into a forward gear. It's one pass forward and two passes back. I'm hoping the young Jamaican lass can shift things along a bit, but City n' England play a game that's easy to cope with. And if yer miss a pen in a tight game yer invariably get a deserving shitty end of the stick.

Just realised that the GB coach is sister to that Dipper Riiiiiiiiiise of the lethal foot.

The Ugandans using somebody who could easily medal as a literal pace setter. Crazy.

10k is possibly the most distorted event in the Olympics. You watch it and it looks as though they're barely moving with a lesuirely jog, yet if you get your fittest mate and ask him to just do 400m, they wouldn't even be able to keep pace for a lap flat out

I know, the last lap was 53 seconds, most fit people couldn't do that period. Most fit people could do 1 normal lap (about 60 seconds) but like you say they'd be pulling up after that.
