Tommy Docherty RIP

Wouldn’t surprise me, I bet Ferguson had something to do with that. I will never forget live on air when Dochery was told that United were refusing to talk to Piccadilly because of a comment Tommy had made in the paper about Gary Pallister. Tommy was a likeable ex Rag manager (he knew how to pull our legs, but he could take the stick we gave him back) and he ranks above any of the others still living.
Yeah, I think it’s fair to say that he and Ferguson didn’t exactly get on. I remember after that unprecedented spending spree of United’s in the summer of 1989 (so probably around the same time as his Pallister comment) and they struggled in the first few months of the following season. One Saturday afternoon on Piccadilly when he was doing his stint with James H, Docherty said in exasperation: “But for 13 million Jim, nothing’s changed!”

He was a guest speaker at a Gents charity night a few years ago and I had a good chat with, he was solid and definitely down to earth. What struck me though was his open disdain for the rags, I haven’t a clue why he disliked him but something has happened that

Morals were higher then, he'd not be sacked now for shagging around.

Never met him but a friend of mine saw him in the Waldorf doing 'commentary' via the TV on the piss rather than at the swamp

Very different times, mate.
Certain people outside the club with influence inside the boardroom brought pressure on the club to depart with his services.

Happy memories of listening to James H Reeve and Tommy Doc on Saturday afternoons, walking from town to Maine Rd. Unforgettable and immensely likeable character. Rest in peace.

Greenhoff hasnt aged well.

He was the one I didn't get myself. Saw someone post his identity on Twitter and was quite surprised. But have checked it out and it's right.

It was a great show and they were a superb combination. Apart from bridging the City-United divide, their humour was very different but absolutely complementary. Docherty was a wise cracking source of often excellent one-liners, while James H. had a very dry, mordant wit. I regarded it as essential listening in those days.

Sad for his family..he lived not far from me and one of his locals was mine , my sister was his next door neighbour for quite a while not a few doors down but actually his next door neighbour, I’ve been in his company a few occasions he played to the audience he was good at that and made a living from it .
Anyone who shags his mates mrs is unforgivable
Don’t kid yourself’s he had no time for us that was a fact !! As I said he played up to the audience and that time was Piccadilly radio.
Never forget him and Brian Clark in the greymare , totally sickening the way they destroyed our club that night never ever . I’ll take the emotion out of it there’s plenty more I could add but out of respect I’ll refrain for the time being.
