Tommy Docherty RIP

Despite being a Rag manager sad to see him dead. Was from a former era that predated much of the media shite we get now.
A few of us blues ended up chatting to him on the train home (think it was after s game at Coventry) and he was really funny and good company.

Not my favourite wolves manager but a great character always sad to see a true football man pass. RIP The Doc

One of his quotes when we were awful in 1985:

"We don't use a stopwatch to judge our golden goal competition now, we use a calendar."

Walked into marple bridge PO about 5 years ago and he was in there holding court with 4-5 others. He asked who i supported and we had the crack for a fee mins
decent fella and loved him with James H. Wouldnt happen in todays sanitised world

RIP THE doc

"More clubs than Jack Nicklaus" was the much-bandied quote about the Doc. He was also manager of Altrincham FC (my second team after City).
Remember him being interviewed for the BBC's Match of the 70s and talking about the hooligan element that followed United in the mid 70s - at one away game in the old Division 2 he was asked to go over to the United end before the kick off to try and appeal for order and calm. After walking behind the goal, he had a piece of roof slate thrown at him which whistled past his head and he beat a hasty retreat back to the dressing room leaving it to the police to deal with.

Managed United in my youth.. He built a great side back then.

He played football like it was meant to be played and it pains me to say but Coppell, Hill, Pearson and the like were good to watch and to be fair they didn't come across as ***** unlike most of the current rags do..

Tommy was a good manager with a great personality.

He was impossible to dislike ..

Sad to hear he's passed away..

He was a guest speaker at a Gents charity night a few years ago and I had a good chat with, he was solid and definitely down to earth. What struck me though was his open disdain for the rags, I haven’t a clue why he disliked him but something has happened that pissed him off.
Getting sacked just after winning the FA Cup for shagging the physio’s wife probably had something to do with it. He did a decent job there in his few years as manager
