Tommy Doyle | Signs for Wolves | will be confirmed Jul 1st

Why would you even sound remotely happy about that?

Zinchenko had a disastrous loan before coming back to City and on to the first team, of course, he had a lot of luck to get in at LB but Doyle is still a good prospect.

Different standards ffs
I refer you to the answer above.

Relax, Francis!

This loan had disaster written all over it from the off,and that is how it has panned out.
The kid has talent that needs developing, get him back here asap and send him to a club that can utilise and appreciate him.

Our club is fucking hopeless when it comes to handling our academy players.

It’s nothing to do with the club, he isn’t good enough. His grandads have helped him massively. Everyone likes a nice story.

Think we need to distinguish a couple of things here. Firstly, we cannot be 100% sure that he’s not good enough. We’ll all have different opinions on that- fair enough, but precious few of us thought Zinchenko would be good enough when he came back from Eindhoven, yet he now has 10 winners’ medals. Doyle may yet surprise us. What we should all be able to agree on, however, is that Doyle should be good enough to enjoy a good career in football, irrespective of whether it’s with us or elsewhere. Now, to ensure that happens, the club needs to get the young players to the right clubs at the right stage of their development, and this loan has certainly not worked, albeit Doyle and his agent need to shoulder some responsibility for that. I hope we can get him to somewhere like Blackpool for the remainder of the season, but failing that get him somewhere he can play week in week out.

He might not be good enough to play for us regularly in the future, but he absolutely should be good enough to play in the German 2nd division.

Why? Many players who have had good youth careers at premier league clubs go on to have fairly average careers elsewhere at the lower levels. Just because Tommy Doyle played for us doesn’t mean he’s good enough for the German 2nd division.

He’s had it easy being pushed due to his family ties and catered for in a set up that allows you time to make mistakes and time to look good. This is proper football and you are either equipped for it or you aren’t.

He will go on to play professional football for the rest of his career and earn good money but if he’s not doing it now it’s nothing to do with the club.

The club didn’t get the loan move wrong with his namesake at Sunderland did he?

Why isn’t Hamburg the right club at the right stage of his development?

Germany’s second tier is a lot more forgiving that England’s. The German game did Sancho and Bellingham no harm but the difference is they are good enough and Doyle isn’t.

It has nothing to do with the agents, this isn’t some council estate kid with a naive family being led down the garden path by vultures, he’s a middle class grounded nice lad with a family that have been in and around football all their lives, they will know more about how football works then your average Joe. Everyone at the time thought Hamburg was a good move for him but that’s as far as their involvement, it’s then up to the player and the player is obviously not showing it in training.

Maybe he’s not settled, maybe he’s homesick, maybe he’s carrying an injury, maybe he’s not good enough, who knows the real reason for his on involvement but his poor loan is nothing to do with the club.

Not sure how you draw that ‘everyone’ conclusion given that the club wanted him to go to Huddersfield; the history of this thread details the events surrounding that.

For what it’s worth, not much, I don’t blame the club for this one, but I’ll reserve judgement on him until I’ve seen how he develops back in England.

What is bizarre is that, in the limited time he has had on the pitch for Hamburg, he has actually done well and affected the games.
Not sure why he is not getting more minutes but it does seem time to try something different.
I would try to get him a loan somewhere where, if he trains well, he will play most games. That probably means League One - starting 15 games at that level would be great for his development.

He’s had it easy being pushed due to his family tie

This is incorrect. He worked his arse off to get anywhere near the first team squad after almost being deemed surplus to requirements a few years before.

If you think the minutes he got were anything to do with Pep wanting to give us a nice, warm, fuzzy story about family ties at the club then I don't really know what to say to you.

Personally, I don't think he's good enough for us at this stage in his career and I can't blame his current team for not giving him much of a chance if the results are going their way without him but to say he's had it easy because of grandparents is pretty insulting, not only to the hard work he's put in but also the integrity of the manager.
