Yes getting rid of your best defensive player for one who isn't as good at defending and will cost more in wages does seem bizarre to say the least, then again Real often do make some strange player recruitment/ retention decisions so it is possible.

I'd say Casemiro and Modric were better defensively. Kroos has more of the quarterback skills of Yaya at his best (ignoring the bullocking runs). Metronomic dictation of play, fantastic awareness and a brilliant passing range
 
A very good player, no doubt, but personally not the marquee signing I had hoped for with Pep's arrival. Excellent passer, but for me, not as complete a player as Yaya was in his prime. Obviously FFP and the need to revamp so many positions is the chief reason.

He's a different type of player than Yaya. They're not even similar at all. Yaya at his prime is a very unique player. Can't think of a good comparison with Yaya. The closest I can think of is prime and stronger Pogba. Kroos plays more with his brain that his physique.
 
If this deal goes through, I'll post a video of myself on Youtube performing 150 backward somersaults, naked, in the street while screaming "I am a whore" after each somersault.

He does & is a very skilled & clever player, but if he signed for the present City squad, with two fairly neutral fullbacks who don't step into midfield like Bayern or Real's do, then Gundogan, we need one more in midfield to be the minder for Kroos, presumably Fernandinho, that leaves 3 places for people who win us the title or Champions League by actually creating & scoring goals. If one of them is Silva, that leaves DeBruyne & Aguero to score about 90 goals.

Making outrageous promises like this is now colloquially known as a "Linekar" be careful what you promise - you might want to start shedding a few pounds in preparation....

Hence why Pep is trying to sign wingers that can score ala Nolito and Sane. And Sterling will be too. Don't forget Nacho. Right now I'm not to concerned about goals as I think it will come for us. If we could score a bunch last season with Peller's offense and a disinterested Yaya, I think we will do better no matter what next season under Pep.

I expect a combination of Kroos/Gundogan/Silva/KDB/Kun to play together very few times, as seen in the past we've had to do with winning trophies when being able to put our strongest team out half a dozen times per season. Next season I expect plenty of rotation, players to be picked according to the opposition's weakness and a fair bit of resting after the Euros/Copa. Also with links to Aubameyang/Sane/Nolito, there'll be plenty of players who can score goals, they just all won't play at the same time. For the first time we'll actually (hopefully) have a proper squad and proper rotation with real alternatives on our bench.
