Tony Blair

The Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, honoured by the British government in an attempt to improve relations within Europe during the cold war had his knighthood revoked the day before his execution by a revolutionary firing squad.

Other victims of the hasty re-writing of history have included the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini and the Irish patriot Roger Casement.
Mussolini had been the first Italian to receive the honour. He was given the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath in 1923 from King George V.
Il Duce lost his knighthood when Italy joined Nazi Germany in 1940 in declaring war on the UK.
I am now better informed but a lot sadder. Ceausescu shows how it is used politically and not given for good work etc.
The system is so outdated it should be scrapped. Knight of the British Empire oh come on.
I must say I am surprised, when I asked who was worse than Blair, no one mentioned the GPC :-)

Really - so explaining why he gets an honour doesn't belong in the thread headed " Tony Blair " ?

I am no fan mate - I had his number early doors and when he became leader of the Labour Party after John Smith died I resigned my membership never to return.
I meant the johnson stuff.

We need more centrist politicians like Blair. I’m no particular fan of the honours system, and I’m not really keen on most of the famous folk who get them, so it wouldn’t bother me much either if he didn’t get one, but I do think he achieved a lot of good things for the country.

My sense of him is of a man of some principle, so I’m not sure he is guilty of knowingly lying to Parliament and the country about the Iraq war. Was he maybe guilty of believing some incorrect US-provided intelligence? I can’t claim to be widely read up on the post Iraq reports & enquiries though, just my impression.

He was the leader of this country. The TOP man. If he was simply fooled by the Yanks then he wasn't fit for the role anyway.
I keep banging on about the forced 'rendition' he is guilty of and no one has yet challenged it. Him and his puppet master Bush should be in prison.
I believe in human rights, whether that's in Palestine Myanmar or Britain.

No they won't take it off him but it might just make people stop and listen.
Bearing in mind all the evil he has caused I don't think there are many who are worse than him and if you know someone please name them. (Jimmy Saville is the only one I can think of)
Who else who has ordered kidnapping and torture that has been knighted.
Please name them ....? Who the fuck are you?

Find them your fucking self.

Not a fan of Blair but can't accept the premise that he personally ordered torture or kidnapping.

You don't get knighted unless you are British as far as I am aware however we have been in bed with some nasty fuckers and not by necessity - Norman Lamont getting the Order of Pinochet is reprehensible though his boss did describe Augusto Pinochet as " a trusted true friend" and he DID personally order kidnapping torture and murder

Sir Jimmy was never charged with or convicted of any crime - just sayin'

You can, they're just honorary, and the person shouldn't be called 'Sir' (for men, presumably Lady for women)

There have been quite a lot!

Re your first 2 lines. He was the leader of this country at the time the man and his wife were forcibly removed from Thailand flown to Libya and tortured. MI5 and 6 report directly to him about terrorism. MI6 have been directly linked (along with the CIA) in the kidnapping. The joint chiefs of staff army navy and airforce report to him.
They were and still are British Citizens and yet Blair knew nothing about it ! Clearly he is a very poor Prime Minister as he never knew what was happening.

The totally innocent man was sentenced to death and then held in a Libyan prison for 6 years at our behest and yet Blair knew nothing about it ! Right.
