Tony Blair

It's a good point.
As much as I disliked Thatch, she never lied to us.... she told us what she was going to do and did it!
Blair on the otherhand......

Well you knew her more than I did cause I have no idea if she lied to us or not. If I had to guess I'd say she told us lots of lies, that's what people in power do.

As for Blair, if there is a Hell he's going there. Thatcher will make him feel at home.

At least Blair has some sense of social empathy. Thatcher didn't have a social anything.

Will people rejoice in the streets when a man who lied to send us to an illegal war, resulting in thousands upon thousands of deaths, dies?

He made one mistake on Iraq apart from that his policies were not devicive or aimed at destroying or dismantling everything in his path. As a whole nobody hated Blair anywhere the magnitude that people hated Thatcher she was off the scale.

It's not much of an endorsement, but I almost (and let's stress the "almost") preferred Thatcher to Blair. She was a hateful old battle axe, but the kind of spin and duplicity which Blair majored in, and which persists today in the form of Cameron, Clegg and Milliband, helped turn me off politics more than anything ever.

Good point, in those days the politician you got what was printed on the label. Today they are sales men, the type that will shaft you!

Thatcher did the work of what the future Governments of this country would have had to of done. Somebody would have done it, I didn't see Blair rushing to reverse anything

The Iraq thing will constantly be thrown into the mix and I believe he handled it wrong and was badly advised. Everybody knows the yanks were the driving force behind it. I don't particularly like the bloke but don't tell me he did nothing good at all for the majority of people while in power. Thatchers whole ethos was to divide the country and turn people against each other.

I think whatever state the country of Iraq is in at the time of Blairs passing will influence peoples thoughts.

If Iraq is still a basket case and its people are still bombing each other then he will be hated as it will have confirmed peoples worst fears, if it is a thriving peaceful growing democracy then perhaps he may be viewed differently. As on the Thatcher thread were dsscusion revolves around things that first started 30 years ago, perhaps in 30 years time when Blair is disscussed on here Iraq may well be different and the war may be judged differently.

Blairs political legacy has only that blot on it. The financial crash will always be attributed to Brown.

Ironically it was Thatcher who first mooted war with Iraq when they invaded Kuwait although Major was in charge when the 1st gulf war started. If Major had pushed for the removal of Saddam at that time Blairs reign could have been all so different

And what a mistake, amazing how people try and sweep his little mistake under the carpet, the t**t should have stood trial. Then he gets the job of middle east peace envoy and tells the world about messages from god. Then hands the running of the country over to that f**kwit Brown.

If Thatcher was still in power at the time Saddam was kicked out of Kuwait, there would have been no Gulf 2. Because there would have been no Saddam.
