Great work Protein very interesting Poll, just going through the list I have to say amazed folks think Cash is a better vocalist than Vince Gill but hey ho.
Al Jarreau the best Jazz soul vocalist IMHO so low in the rankings what a shame. Going to cry now.
Echo the sentiment, thanks
@Protein Junkie. Been a fascinating poll.
On the Cash thing, I voted for him but i would happily acknowledge Vince Gill and the likes of Randy Travis and Raul Malo (nice to see he got a vote) probably have 'better' voices but I chose Cash because imo he is the best storyteller. With the American recordings at the end of his career it just sounds like an entire life coming out of the speakers. Only artist on the list who could have triggered a prison riot through his storytelling if he'd wanted to and apparently it crossed his mind.
I thought MG would be in top 5 but was slightly surprised he was first. I think I agree that only 2 votes for James Brown is probably the biggest shocker, I had him as my 11th pick and maybe wish I'd booted someone else out for him.
Love to see the diversity in the lower part of the list and was glad to see so many artists get at least 1 vote. Case in point - shout out to whoever voted for Billy Bragg, maybe for many it's counter intuitive he's in a best vocalist poll but you'd have to have a hard heart not to be moved by his delivery of songs like Tank Park Salute or Levi Stubbs Tears.
Would have been nice to see a slightly bigger folk and reggae representation. Wasn't exactly expecting to see Eek a Mouse but I had thought that the likes of John Holt or maybe a bit of lovers rock like Gregory Isaacs might have sneaked a vote to supplement Marley and Hibbert.
I ended with 9/10 in the 100 but am still puzzled I was the only vote for Ray Charles! Here's what you're missing folks :-)
Thanks once again PJ
