The Money for Nothing riff surely gets him in the top 10. That's cock out stuff.
Absolutely hate that song .... after the glorious Love Over Gold album came the sweatband on his head, and MTV lite shite. :-)

He'd have been probably number one for my list if I'd voted, but I'm no expert of guitar, I just love his music. He's probably not as cool as other guitarists though, just exists in less popular genres.Knopfler should be in the top 10! I get it's favourite and all that, but come on people! Go and watch the man play the guitar, he's an absolute master and so unique in his fingerpicking style. I love Santana and had him in my top 10 but I get musically he might not be to everyone's taste.
Knopfler gave us Sultans of Swing, he deserves to be in the top 10 just for that!
You clearly don't since you've then said we should have voted for him because he's good at guitar
It would have been a very short poll then :-)Of course I get it. You just didn't get that your favourites should be the same as mine. Are we just going to sit back and accept the no1 when it's released or are we going to put our view out there?!
In all seriousness, Knopfler didn't make my no1 anyway. And he only got into a high position because I play guitar and love his style. There are others who aren't technically as good but whose music I much prefer. I couldn't help but confuse technical ability and favourite on my list though, because I play the guitar and was inspired by certain players even through one or two songs.
I've always been a big fan of DS, but Brothers In Arms came out when I was still at school and it pissed me off that everyone was suddenly raving about them - great record and all but all the previous albums were better and more mature. I think Knopfler was experimenting a bit with them at that time and becoming more country influenced and eventually decided it wasn't worth continuing which was the right decision.Absolutely hate that song .... after the glorious Love Over Gold album came the sweatband on his head, and MTV lite shite. :-)
Rush are one of my faves but Alex Lifeson didn't make my list.I had Steve Howe on my list but not as high as a long standing Yes fan like me would expect.
I get that. I thought the same at the time. I felt they went crap and then everyone's a DS fan all of a sudden.I've always been a big fan of DS, but Brothers In Arms came out when I was still at school and it pissed me off that everyone was suddenly raving about them - great record and all but all the previous albums were better and more mature.
