Could easily do top tens from a few genres. A single top 10 is an impossible task, your mention of americana/folk rock has just made me realise I didn't even consider the brilliant Margo Timmins from Cowboy Junkies.

She didn’t make my Top 10 but Carly Smithson is great on this track with the band “We are the Fallen” (Ben Moody of Evanescence fame)

I had Allison Moorer in my list, now wish I'd put her top so she could have got in with the other single vote 10s. Seen her live a handful of times and her voice is just mesmerising. She's had a remarkable life and I think it shows in her voice, some of her songs are as plaintive as it gets.
For those unfamiliar this is what she is best known for, though it pales against some of her other stuff.
Toss up between ‘Think It Over’ and ‘Easier To Forget’ as my favourite song from her earlier days and probably’The Ties That Bind’ from her more recent offerings. She could sing me just about anything though with that voice and I’d be happy. Hoping she’ll come over to England again soon…..
