If you hire a better manager I could see you competing with Chelsea and probably coming 2nd, but with Pellegrini in charge I don't think you'll get the best out of the current crop of players (plus his signings haven't been anything to write home about imo).

Way too soon. Having said that this season's top 4 will almost certainly remain the top 4, just the order is very hard to predict this early on.

Utd will struggle if they get into the Champions League. They had a big advantage this season without European football and still only got 70 points which is way less than what Arsenal got in 4th spot last season. In 2013/14 that would have seen them 6th.

Everyone assumes they will strengthen again but they'll have to spend to stand still: spine of team: De Gea, Carrick and RVP need to be replaced, and they need 1 or even 2 central defenders. That's an amazing amount of engineering. LVG has the most difficult job of the top 4 managers given what he spent last Summer.

But who would take their place? Spurs are the closest and still a long way off
