Top Four or final?

Anyone know this: if Liverpool win Europa League, and we finished fourth in the league but did not win the CL, would we still qualify for next season's CL qualifiers?

Taken from SkySports...

UEFA rules stipulate that each association can have a maximum of five clubs in the Champions League for the 2016/17 season, meaning if Manchester City win this season's competition and Liverpool win the Europa League, the fourth-place side will have to drop out, provided Manchester City and Liverpool do not finish in the top four.

Ah...

So if we finish 4th without winning the CL, we qualify for next year's CL qualifiers even if Liverpool win the EL.

That's okay then.

If we win the CL, it makes no difference to me where we finish from 2nd-17th, but obviously the club would disagree with financial implications. I wouldn't be thrilled at finishing outside the top 4 but if we win the CL, we've qualified - job done. If you'd asked us City fans at the start of the season whether they'd rather finish with 2 trophies, including the CL, and outside the top 4 or finish in the top 4 with a League Cup, most would have said 2 trophies.

A CL and League Cup double is up there with the best of seasons, regardless of league position and some of our below par performances.

We ain't winning the CL under pellegrini (even if we were to fluke it to the final), but we can under Pep, so top 4
Kind of agree we won't win it but the question is a final versus 4th. It has to be final all day long. Not sure we will be serious contenders in Pep first year anyway and even if he is a success domestically it's not an easy final to reach. I think a chance to win a CL trophy is rare and I for one would love to get there this year. If we can take care of PSG next Tuesday that dream is still alive and remember all of the big boys have work to do in the second leg so we just might have a chance. Dream on!!

This seems in some cases to be drifting away from the originally posted question which was essentially would you as things stand TODAY sacrifice getting to the final with a CHANCE of winning it but NO alternative route to qualification for next via the league i.e. 5th or lower finish if, TODAY that sacrifice guaranteed CL football (inc being in group stage) next year.

Top 4, Pep without champs league is unthinkable. Can you really see this City team beat Bayern, Real or Barca in the Semi's ? As well as we played last night, if Ibra had his shooting boots on last night we'd be down and out for the second leg.

Having just read the previous page, I've changed my mind.
Top 4. Hopefully 3rd. Arsenal to pip the rags into 4th, courtesy of a highly contentious, 3 yards offside goal in the 97th minute. (by wellbeck)

Bayern wont have it cushy at Benfica, Real are near to out so Barca are the only one of these three i think will go through, we may not even get them in the semis should we go through, it could end up City v Wolfsberg final then you have to fancy us to win it
