I have to disagree with this. As much as I hate the cnut, Gerrad is probably the best midfielder I've ever seen play football. He's miles ahead of Lampard, a bit better than Scholes and Zidane were, and much better than guys like Fabregas and Kaka.
There isn't a single weak point to his game, in my opinion. If he was a few years younger, I wouldn't mind us sticking £100m in for HIM
can you tell me one amazing and outstanding thing he has done in the past 2 seasons??? Im struggling to think of one, world class players are remembered for the great play, something Gerrard has never done at a constant, and high level throughout his career. Dont get me wrong,these have been flashes of brilliance on occasions, the champions league final is the first to spring to mind, when they came from behind against us was another great display from him last season at home i think it was, but what else? A world class player perfoms at a very high standard, most of the time, rooney, ronaldo, messi, aguero, zidane, bergkamp. These are world class players and to even mention "stevie starfish gerrard" in the same breath is an insult to the great players of the game. Never have i disliked an English footballer like i dislike gerrard, Average, cheat, never stops moaning. Add all of this up and you have an average footballer.

Gerrard better than Zidane? Not even close...Zidane could probably still piss all over anything Gerrard, probably the most gifted, and possibly effective (although thats more of an assumption), in recent times!!

Zidane was probably the best player since Socrates in terms of controlling games. His touch and control was incredible, passing as good as any player before and after him.
Fair enough Gerrard doesn't have any obvious weaknesses but come on? If he's so amazing why can't he do what Zidane did for France? He carried France to World Cup and Euro wins. Sure it was a good France squad, but it wasn't a much better squad than England had over the same period...

The Zidane thing is a bit OTT, but I agree with Damocles on everything else, Gerrard is the complete midfielder, if he played in a top quality club side regularly he'd be magnificent, he's carried the bin dippers for years.
