It's the right decision but testing either has to be mandatory for everyone (which, obviously it should be) OR games need to be rescheduled if a team can't play. You can't have a situation where a team is trying to do the right thing and getting punished for it.

Might have been better to have just had a one-off penalty shoot-out with the remaining Covid-free players. At least there would be some element of competition.

I was listening to the owner of Orient discussing this earlier this week. If I remember correctly, the club need to make £1.5m this season to remain healthy. This game was worth £150,000 profit to them - 10% of the figure they need to generate.

If this country is serious about keeping the lower leagues afloat, postponing this game was the only viable decision. The owner was pretty sure that he'd had good conversations with Tottenham and there were dates that both clubs could accommodate.

I think this is great news. It’ll stop teams trying to get fixtures rearranged. I hope the PL would follow suit and award a 3-0 loss to anyone who couldn’t play due to Covid

A few teams will gladly forfit playing City for a 3-0 defeat than face City and get thrashed 5-0 or more!

I'd have made them have a penalty shootout to see who goes through. Seems harsh to chuck someone out for being ill, and it incentivises clubs not to get tested, given that it's not mandatory for some reason

That wasn't a viable decision. They've got very few possible days to play this cup and delaying this game would have thrown the whole thing off.

In the lower leagues its not mandatory to be checked. If they're playing a premier league team they will/may offer to cover the cost of testing. Which is what Spurs did.

Right, but for a lower league team that needs the money, why would you agree to be tested if it means the game could be cancelled? Testing either has to be mandatory, and it should be, or if it stays optional the "punishment" should be a postponement so teams don't take dumb risks just to get the game in.
