Tottenham Pre Match Thread

I think most people are expecting a Spurs win and that may work in our favour, taking a bit of the pressure off. I expect it to be a close game and think that we'll just sneak it.
I hope so mate, but our current midfield and defence is so atrocious that I feel Spurs would have to perform well below par for us to take something from that. They're on an incredible run and we're currently playing like a bunch of school kids so to say I'm not confident is an understatement.

A sad thing and clear indicator of how far we have regressed under Pellegrini is the almost complete lack of optimism on this thread. We already know Spurs are compact, organized and will more than likely dictate the game against our porous midfield that will once again contain (at this point) the completely ineffectual Yaya. When we once again line up with a seeming disregard for our opponents, I'm pretty confident we will lose. At home. Again.

With absolute respect to Spurs, Leicester, Liverpool et al, with our squad there should be no reason to fear any of them, yet we do. Roll on the summer, because as 'charming' as he is, MP cant leave quick enough for me.

+1

I take absolutely no pleasure in saying this but I can't see how we wont get over run, out worked, beaten to all the second balls, made to look slow and disorganised and lose by at least two goals.

I didn't think he was that advanced yesterday. Looked more of a 4-4-2 to me with Sterling up front with Aguero and Delph on the left. I didn't see many of our players tracking their man either, not just Toure. He clearly can't play in a midfield 2 but I think he could be effective in a more holding position or in Silva's role.

One thin is for certain, that with our current injuries, he's pretty much guaranteed to be starting so we have to find a way to make best use of him on the pitch.

Can't argue with that.

In fairness his best performance so far this season was against Sevilla when we played 433 with dinho and nando holding. If it were up to me I'd play that formation with kun kelechi and sterling as the front three but I can see us playing 4231 with dinho nando/delph kolarov left wing yaya cam and sterling on the right.

When yayas played behind Aguero I personally don't think he's done that well. I think he played there against Spurs earlier on in the season and he was ineffective.

At least the kick-off time allows me to get some sleep for this game, not like the shambles on Saturday when it was a 1:45am kick-off for me.

If we lose, and Leicester beat Arsenal, we are 9 points of the pace. Or if we lose and Arsenal beat Leicester , then all of Arsenal, Tottenham and Leicester have a 4+ point buffer. Its not a stretch to say if we lose this game we likely wont win the title.

Side note, glad Costa scored against United as 4 points ahead of United in 5th is not very comfortable. Although 6 points with a better goal difference is.

Like many, I thought this title was between us and Arsenal with us being too strong. However, now I believe that not only can Arsenal finish above us, but also Tottenham and Leicester.

I am well aware Toure isn't in good form but I would still prefer to see him over Fernando there and see if he could play the deep playmaker role. Not sure if Iheanacho could play the left wing role so maybe Angelino could be an option if not. We always look better with width on both sides.

Spurs don't have the pace that Leicester have and if we turn up, I can see us sneaking a win in a close game.

Spurs don't need to have pace. Leicester play 9 outfielders behind the ball & Vardy up top. They have minimal possession every game. Spurs are completely opposite. They play higher up the field. They swarm over defenses & win ball back higher up the field & counter.

In any case, they do have pacy players - Kane is deceptively quick. You only have to look at their Full backs play in MOTD - all their 4 are pacy. Son is pacy. Chadli, Lamela, Alli also can carry the ball.

More than anything, am really worried about midfield. Dembele will eat up Delph. Yaya is the only one who could physically tussle with him. If Yaya doesnt play & bring his A game, Spurs will dominate. Only hope is Aguero getting behind their CBs. They look solid too.

Spurs in all competitions - Last 6 games - 6 wins. They are the form team in PL, conceded less than 20 & scoring for fun. Could not have picked a worst time to face that lot
