City do want an african player to boost the profile their. Plus he fits the bill for what we need.

Profile in Africa? Excuse my ignorance but why bother? Its hardly the most affluant place on earth is it?

Ask The Chairman and MH. Why do you think we are going south africa this year and Rags was their last??

I'm no expert but playing a couple of friendlies in South Africa is hardly gonna dramatically increase shirt sales in that country let alone other African nations. Blackburn bought Benni Mcarthy and as far as I know ther is no Blackburn Rovers superstore in cape town or anywhere else on the continent is there?
don't think they sell many benyani tops in harare either.come to think of it don't think they sell much there as the place is fucked.hey don there's some clever cunts on here you tabloid reading **** from new moston! ha ha ha!

I know its pathetic the way some people believe all this marketing rubbish. winning raises a teams' profile that is it. If we were to buy a top player we may sell a few more shirts that summer but if we had a team of no-marks and won the league 5yrs running shirt sales go up for a very long time

City want to be this 'globle brand' signing a big player(a good expirenced prem defender) in africa would boost that. Not on of the lines of Robinho in South America but it would boost it. It's the chairman who mentioned it in an interview not long ago so go and pester him about it, cause I can't be arsed.

I'm saying he Idea of buying toure to raise our profile is rubbish(i maybe wrong) I just cant see City stores going up across a continent on the strength of buying a couple of Africans. we should concerntrate(it looks like we are doing) on building a great team THEN worry about selling it to the world. How would we feel if a team that finished 10th in Italy bought Lesscott then had a couple of friendlies over here? I wouldnt be running out to buy his shirt would you? But sides that win things Barca, A.c, Real Madrid etc can sell shirts no matter who is in them

Haha, come on... how many MLS sides can most people name? LA Galaxy is one everyone over hear knows, why? Beckham. I bet not too many african kids cared about Chelsea before Essien and Drogba came along. So, if people in England wanted to jump on the bandwagon if/when MLS became popular, ther'd be a large proportion supporting LA Galaxy, its the one they would recognise and identify a connection with straight away. Also tell me just how successful they've been with Beckham... exactly.

To say we shouldn't look to break into the African market because, to hyperbole; "they're poor - whats the point?" Is the pathetic comment of this thread.

I don't agree or disagree with you because I dont know the full in's and out's of how it works, I suppose Cook knows what he's doing though with this type of marketing.

Kolo Toure is no David Beckham that isnt really a fair comparrison.

Chelsae are top of the league that is why people supprt them in Africa and they are also World-class players, like I said there is no Blackburn Rovers stores in Cape Town is there?

And I never said 'They're poor whats the point?' I asked a question why are we bothering because it hardly seems the most affluent place on earth, but was then put right because apparently it is very affluent
