Kolo Toure is no David Beckham that isnt really a fair comparrison.

Chelsae are top of the league that is why people supprt them in Africa and they are also World-class players, like I said there is no Blackburn Rovers stores in Cape Town is there?

And I never said 'They're poor whats the point?' I asked a question why are we bothering because it hardly seems the most affluent place on earth, but was then put right because apparently it is very affluent

I've no idea what Kolo Toure's reputation amongst Afriacan football fans is, i know Essien is apparently likened to an equivalent of David Beckham over there. But securing an Eto'o would certainly alert fans over there to us, at the same time improving the squad. Its not as simple as buy him, he'll help the brand grow, theres a number of reasons to buy a player, marketing is a small but relevant one for us.

Theres no need to get smart about it, noone said all of Africa is 'very affluent', you just made a sweeping generalisationt and a few people corrected you.

The crooks of my argument is that it is a very slippery slope buying players to 'raise our profile'. We finished 10th last year with Robinho, did Citys' shirt sales go up dramatically in Brazil? I dont know probably not though. If we had a team of any nationality that won everything under the sun our 'profile' would be raised all on its own without trying to cherry pick marketable players.

I'm not saying get rid of Robinho and buy a bunch of cloggers. Definatley not. just thought I would get that in before people start to jump on me

And i agree, i don't think we should by any player because "he'll raise our profile in X".

But its undoubtibly a consideration for our club to look to identify potential signings that not only take us forward as a club on the pitch, but off it too.

City do want an african player to boost the profile their. Plus he fits the bill for what we need.

If all we're interested in is raising our 'profile' then we ought to sign up Nelson Mandela.
This new fangled crap about profiles , shirt sales & image rights does my swede in.

Like I said above it's not me who's saying it, it's the Chairman and Chief Executive. Email the club and tell them what you think and how it should be done.

No problem mate, thought it was aimed at me.

I don't even rate toure that high, plenty more top defenders out there and it's not like we don't have the cash. Looks like if we don't get Lescott it's goin to be Toure.
