ric kindly removed the original thread.

it is decided that we will be going to scotland for a year or so in her mobile home.
the plan is to work our way further and further north, bit by bit, in no particular hurry, taking in the highlands and islands.

the idea is to avoid people, cities, etc as much as possible and spend as much time in the wilderness as we can.
remote pubs being the ultimate bonus.

if anyone has any personal experience of doing this sort of thing and/or can provide internet links to such places we'd be extremely grateful.

cheers, blues x

Isle of Harris/Lewis is a must to see luskentyre beach, ferry is very expensive for motor homes from Ullapool you’d be better going through Skye and ferry from there

Not much advice but would avoid the NC 500 always busy, though there are other quieter routes through the Highlands, Lots of quieter wildernaess around the Borders or Dumfies and Galloway too (plus North Northumberlad ) So don't miss them out.All the best
Edit, Clarkson and co did a Grand Tour special ,that started on the 500 but went off on a much quieter and more scenic route through the highlands may be worth trying to catch up on that for the route.

Get there via a slow run through Northumberland.
It is absolutely stunning.
On a more mundane matter may I recommend your friend gets a full print out of her medical record. She is entitled to it whatever any reception desk jockey might say.
It may come in handy if medical intervention is required.

If you want quiet times away from people Orkney and Shetland are good. Small towns, very small everything else. The ferry to different islands is quite easy and not usually packed but still better to book in advance. Then explore the beautiful scenery, the history and peace.

Some ‘howffs‘ to visit, though be warned that one is practically inaccessible.

No idea why Dores Inn is on there. It's only a few miles outside Inverness and fucking busy at all times.

Sure it's at the end of the Loch with some stunning views up the full length, and yes it has the Nessie hunter camped next door but the food and beer were nice enough but not outstanding. Ate 3 nights in a row there a few years ago before moving on.

This has got to be a clarkie?

Probably because there is precious else on that shoreline, I would imagine. Seems to be popular.
