touring scotland in a mobile home

My lad did the mobile home thing on Harris, In February.

They nearly got blown into the N Atlantic on a couple of occasions and had to be rescued from waterlogged camp sites on a couple of other. The ferry crossing was 'very fraught'. Only for the foolhardy or terminally daft - yes you G. Pick your route carefully with the seasons in mind mate. It is beyond stunning though and catch the hebrides, skye, mull in gentle weather and you will think you are in heaven. Don't avoid the east either although the natives are not as garrulous as our neighbours in the West, Braemar, Deeside and the Whisky trail round Speyside is great. Trossachs are the highlands in miniature. Peace and quiet though? Good luck.

it is decided that we will be going to scotland for a year or so in her mobile home.
the plan is to work our way further and further north, bit by bit, in no particular hurry, taking in the highlands and islands.

the idea is to avoid people, cities, etc as much as possible and spend as much time in the wilderness as we can.
remote pubs being the ultimate bonus.

if anyone has any personal experience of doing this sort of thing and/or can provide internet links to such places we'd be extremely grateful.

cheers, blues x
You are Peter Murrell and I claim my £107,000. ;-)

Oh and if you actually do this you mad fucker watch out for the midge season. It can get 7 plagues of Egypt levels of bad up there.

Do as many of the islands as you can, absolutely wonderful places.
If i won the lottery i would just move between the islands for the rest of my days

Not much advice but would avoid the NC 500 always busy, though there are other quieter routes through the Highlands, Lots of quieter wildernaess around the Borders or Dumfies and Galloway too (plus North Northumberlad ) So don't miss them out.All the best
Edit, Clarkson and co did a Grand Tour special ,that started on the 500 but went off on a much quieter and more scenic route through the highlands may be worth trying to catch up on that for the route.
Thanks for that....just watched it, on my list of things to do....their version obviously.

There’s a campsite at Arisaig, run of the mill, but the views, the scenery and the beach are unbelievably beautiful and at dusk it takes your breath away. If you don’t fancy the site, go there and try and park up. We did a few years ago. Hope you have a great time werever you end up.

Sutherland is quiet and stunning and vast.
Yes the west is really scenic but there's beautiful scenery on the East as well.
Up to Caithness from Inverness is a nice drive as well with some lovely villages along the way
