Training Moved To Etihad Day Before Matches

We've come a long way since Joe Royle used to take the players to a local school in a mini bus for the pre match warm ups before games at Maine Road as they were intimidated by the ground haven't we!

Was that the reason they did that Dan? ffs.

I remember it will. I seem to remember that Royal was trying to use our big crowds to our advantage.

When they travelled through the crowds and got of the bus at the stadium half an hour before kick off, they were cheered and clapped and it was supposed to hype them up.
I was behind the mini-bus in my car on its way to the ground before the Wigan play-off semi at Maine Road.

I didn't realise straight away that it was them, so it was a bit surreal seeing Terry Cooke's face peering out of the back window when they got caught up in some traffic near Kippax Street.

As others have said, it's fucking mental how far we've come, it really is.

Wonder what the groundsman will think of it when it's been pouring down on a Friday in January?

This would have never happened in Stan Gibson's day. Never, He would have just told Pellers and his mates to fuck off! ;-)
It did happen in Stans day though, training on the Maine Rd pitch was a regular occurrence

I love this.

Small decision but can't see anything but positives here
What are the positives if I may ask?
A feel for the stadium?
A feel for the pitch?
A feel for positional play on that pitch?

That's just 3 off the top of my head and i'm sure someone with far more footballing knowledge than me will be able to come up with more.
Closer to town to do a bit of shopping and go to a restaurant for tea, after training.

may be possible to keep our training session away from the press also.

I don't really see how this will affect us that much but let's see what happens. Our home form hasn't exactly been a problem in recent seasons.

It will make more sense though when we're training at the campus everyday from next season.
I thought our home form lost us the title last season. In 2011-12 we beat United, Arsenal, Everton, Liverpool and Norwich at home; last season we didn't win any of those games. The points difference at home in 2011-12 to last season was 7 points and if you take three away from United had we beaten them that makes up the 11 point difference between us and them in the final league table.

We didn't win a home CL game and also lost to Villa on the FL Cup at home.

I suspect it's at least partially this. He likely got very annoyed at the amount of journalists up trees and figured it would just be easier to do it at the stadium.

How about looking at it from a work point of view, take me for example, i have worked in workshops all my life and when i have changed jobs the workshop i have had to start in does not feel familiar even though its the same trade and tooling etc, you have to get used to your surroundings.
Maybe thats what Pellers is trying to familiarise them with their workplace, surely its better to be there more and work in the place than less
Oh i dont know, maybe were all just jerking off, as was said in a great film once

Probably extra crossing practice for Hart, Navas is good with those whipped in crosses ( no pun intended) I'd expect he will be drilled on crosses before Hull, as they're sure to use this tactic, it's a well known weakness for him now.
Or maybe he's going to give Pants a run out instead?
But it makes sense to get the ground ingrained in the new boys minds, so they're aware of it's feel, so they feel at home quicker.

Great point, knowing Pellers he has studied that from last year and sees this as a way of rectifying it
