Travel to the USA

They're twinned, as both were huge steelmaking centres of course. But Pittsburgh has a very Mancunian vibe as, like Manchester, it suffered greatly from the decline of its traditional industries but has reinvented itself as a pretty cool place with a real buzz. Plus the inhabitants are largely working class people, who are incredibly friendly & generous, sports crazy (and I mean crazy), very proud of where they live and their history and have a dialect all their own.

And their equivalent of LS Lowry is Andy Warhol.
I've flown over it a few times. Looks good at night from up there ; )

Got some friends in Pittsburg, looks like a nice City
It’s an up and comer in western PA. Spent a great night there the night the Penguins won the Stanley Cup in 2017! It’s a bit of a semi-urban shithole outside the entertainment core, but the countryside outside town is beautiful…much like Philly in the east of the state.

Anyone been to Marco Island? Going there after a week in Orlando in May.
Have a family place there. Wife going next week with her Mum, we are going again in April and my Seasoncard Bro and his wife coming over from Dukinfield to visit for Easter!

Marco has a beautiful stretch of beach. Bit shelly in places, as they rebuilt it with dredged seabed sand after a hurricane about 15 years ago.

Find the Sand Bar for cheap, but good, eats in a sports bar, Esplanade for nice outdoor dining. For best ribs ever, Michelblbs takeout is in the island, but their restaurant is up in Naples across from Naples Airport. I’m sure you’ll take a trip or two to Naples, so enjoy Tin City, Old Town, and the beaches.

Where are you staying?

Beach looking north from South access.

In May, you should have great weather. Could be early day sun, with some afternoon storms if you get there when it’s a bit juicy atmospherically, but otherwise, perfect time of year. And, weather builds inland during the day and blows out in the late afternoon, so you can be in completely glorious weather at the beach with thunderstorms over the Everglades!

Take yourselves an umbrella (or tent-like contraption) to the beach, as you’ll crisp up quickly!

…and it will be QUIET, nothing like pic above, as the season ends after Easter week!

There used to be a Singapore Airlines flight to Houston that stopped in Manchester that had amazing business class flights . Circa £500 round trip in 2019ish . It could have been a seasonal thing but it might be worth signing up to their website/app for the offers.

Its called a fifth freedom route, where an airline flies between two cities in different countries, on the way to their home country. And yes, many times those routes have ridiculously good fares.

I’ve stayed on Marco, but I have a place in Naples. As CB states its a nice place to holiday ,lots of restaurants and bars, worth doing a boat trip for the Mantees and dolphins, youve also got the Everglades for an air boat trip and gator spotting.Naples is much bigger and has a more diverse selection of eateries.
If you want any recommendations let me know.
