Trouble in the North Stand second tier vs United

I’ve been in the “wrong” end once in my life (at West Ham) and I’d never do it again as I couldn’t enjoy the day. We lost and I was conscious of being City all the way through.

The rags are the ultimate love hate club and only one of their odious fans celebrates a goal in our section. It’s so disrespectful to do it.
I too stood in the home end at West Ham once in the early 90s (not sure why, maybe the away section was all ticket and I couldn't get one?) We actually won that day thanks to a last minute winner from Colin Hendry
I don't condone twatting rival supporters when their team score (even rags!) and
obviously I was cheering and jumping up and down inside when City scored at Upton Park that day, but sensibly showed restraint.
As you say, not only is it disrectful to the home fans in ' their section 'but it's also pretty stupid and provocative!

Was in with Villa fans when Lescott scored the winner against them at Villa Park, i couldnt stop myself jumping up.
Apart from a few comments & dirty looks they never touched me, thank fuck ha.
Got a smack at Bristol City though, although that was more for my Cardiff accent than supporting City ha.
Used to go in with the home sides fans a lot watching City over the years, i did try to get tickets in their Grandstand or where the dearer tickets were......richer, older fans in them, less likely to get a kicking anyway.
That all changed when the hooligans started going in the dear seats to get away from the coppers

Hey, snap! It was years ago, in the seventies, when the West Ham “firm” were decidedly active. I went in through the wrong turnstile and I think I must have found myself right in the middle of them. Wasn't wearing my colours (I wasn't that stupid) but I had to keep my lip buttoned up when we scored, and sort of smile sickly when they scored. As I remember it, we won the match. But I can't say it was at all agreeable.
Re. the OP and the following post from @Scaley. If the fan involved really was a complete tourist, i.e. from another country, maybe another continent, they could have been making an understandable mistake, up to a point. I think there are countries where it's sort of tolerated. May be wrong, but I don't think you get into fisticuffs in the States if you're at a baseball or American football match and you do that. If you were in Italy, by contrast, and it was Inter against Juve or Inter against A.C., you'd be lucky to get out with life and limb intact.
It's culturally very variable.

As i was entering the ground yesterday through entrance g spiral there was a chinese tourist with an half and half scarve on. He looked terrified and was asking the stewards to let him out of the ground. This was about 2.30pm. The stewards were telling him that once they let him out he would not be able to get back in which he said he understood.

Could only guess he had received a load of abuse for his scarve in 306 and decided to do one.

Remember when Tyson Fury and his blue brothers sat in the family stand at a derby and amazingly nobody said a word.
I remember Rotherham away when there were a load of Blues in the home seats. After City scored, the locals started to mob up to have a go. Then they realised Ricky Hatton was in there...it soon calmed down.

Shame really, the poor bastard would think by buying a half and half scarf he'd be okay. People have to give tourists a bit of a pass, someone just needs to explain the situation to them.

Anyone wearing an half and half scarf is asking for trouble

Entirely agree, but if you really are a tourist I don't think they quite realise how high passions run. They should, but they don't. They're coming from halfway round the world for the “Premier League Experience”. It's just something they've seen on the telly. A sanitised – even anaesthetised – experience.
You'd think, though, that someone would advise them, “Look, if you're a neutral, fair enough, but don't wear anything, and for God's sake don't celebrate the away team's goals. It's a monumental wind-up”.
(How do you say “wind-up” in Mandarin or Cantonese, by the way?)

The only folk who should be banned is the absolute moron who creates that situation.

Hate to be horrible but they deserve a clout for being so bleeding stupid
Someone ran several yards to clonk him. Situational awareness, I grant you, but the prick who hit him shouldn't be exonerated just because.

Sitting in the Blackpool seats with my mates at the Fylde coast Derby in a couple of weeks will keep a very low profile as they did at Highbury.

As an away fan in the home end in any stadium in the land I’d more or less guarantee you get violent reaction if you celebrated your team scoring.
I'd guess so. You really need to keep your nut down, and your mouth shut. It isn't rocket science. In an ideal world, it shouldn't be that way, of course. You should be able to celebrate your team scoring a goal, without giving it the big 'un, obviously. But we don't live in an ideal world, and there are plenty of hot heads around who will gladly make the fan aware of the error of his ways.

Feel sorry for the stewards having to deal with it but not the rag.
Doesn’t matter who you support but if you’re an away fan in a home end you need to learn how to behave or except the consequences.
