Turkish Barbers

That the guy on the bridge, i went to him, he just clippered me, not sure hes heard of scissors lol
He's hopeless, made the mistake of going there once asked for a 1 on the back and sides trimmed on top came out with a 1 and a 7 with a hint of blending. Went to my usual place to sort out and he knew exactly where I'd been.

Yes it's wrong but it's just the nature of the job. We're talking here of the lowest level of business, people who really are probably just getting by so there won't be much tax to pay anyway (if any).

It's different if they're laundering criminal money but at least in my experience I just don't see it. The Turkish barbers I go in are always busy, they're not ghost companies unless the barbers are working in some underworld at night! I'm not so sure that Chorley is a hotspot setting for Breaking Bad.

It would take HMRC and an army of tens of thousands to tackle it so really you can only expect people to do the right thing but they aren't going to whilst they can get away with it.

I have an Indian and Chinese takeaway just up the road from me and neither of them accept card and neither of them deliver on Just Eat. I don't know if they do creative accounting but they're always packed to the rafters because they're miles cheaper, if people were that bothered then they could always go elsewhere but they won't.

I agree not all tte barber shops are selling black market gear, but some/a lot are.
According to the authorities anyhow. They would know more than me.

I've been going there for years with no complaints. Good bloke for a rag ( Never goes) and we have a good chat and banter. He does have another person helping him out now and then maybe it was him and not Ron? He's been a barber for 30 years so he knows his stuff. It sounds unlikely he'd mess up something as basic as what you described.

Of course they should but there is a greater good argument and the cost of policing and investigating it means there's nothing that can be done anyway. So as long as my haircut is cheaper then yes I'm happy to turn a blind eye.
So you aren’t bothered about legitimate business’s, barbers for example shutting down because they can’t compete with the 5 other dodgy barbers who’ve suddenly opened on the same street. Your not bothered about some of the things they get up to either - drugs and people trafficking?

As long you get a cheap haircut. The government, police and others have highlighted how big a problem this is becoming as well.

Legitimate Turkish barbers no one has a problem with.

It was definitely the owner. The fact that my normal barber 2 miles away knew where I'd been from looking at the state of the cut, told me all I needed to know. I dare say that's why he was £7.50 though.

Odd I've never had a problem.

It would be easy to determine if a shop is a front for money laundering, just look them up on companies house. If they're dealing drugs and laundering money through the books then it would be obvious in their accounts. This is why I don't think it's actually a big problem because I think it's far too obvious. Given tons of these shops are opening up, they're either very stupid or HMRC are utterly blind.

I looked up the barbers that I go to and the guy who owns it has put through maybe £25-30k last year. Most staff in a barbers are self-employed so a lot of income sits off the shop anyway. Basically the shop owner is making just above minimum wage, he's hardly Pablo Escobar really!

At the very worse the self-employed lads who work in there might not be declaring their earnings properly and therefore paying less tax. A good example is if you tip, my haircut is £8 so I always give £10. The £2 gets thrown in the till and maybe they share it all? No idea. This happens though everywhere and not just in a Turkish barbers. Does your local chippy do it any differently?

My local ‘Turkish’ barber is always full and he’s not cheap. I guess he cuts hair for a living.

I bet he turns over a lot of customers and probably focuses on regulars more, its either that or you've got a shocking barnet ;-)

Reviews aren't great.

Ron is a character but for a guy who's dealt with the public all his life he gets irritated quite quickly and it's quite amusing to watch.

Yesterday just after he'd finished cutting my hair this little old Jewish man appeared looking like he'd just walked off a New York film set, he was even actually American. Resplendent in a brown camel coat and white hair and beard, the dutiful daughter waiting outside, he ambled in like he owned the place. Ron tried to get him to sit in the chair but he was having none of it. In no hurry he started asking about the prices and Ron directed him to the price board on the wall. Question after question ensued and by now a couple of other customers had entered. Ron again tried to get him to sit in the chair to no avail.
He then said he didn't want a haircut today but was coming in tomorrow with his nephew, who wanted a tapered neck and did Ron know what one was and how to do it? Totally flustered and growing increasingly irritated Ron pointed to some pictures of tapered necks and answered, "I've only been cutting hair for thirty years I should think so!" He then asked if there was a restroom and if so could he use it. Ron told him it was out of commission ( It wasn't but after he left he told me he didn't want him pissing all over the floor lol)
It was like a comedy sketch and worth the price of the haircut just to witness it lol.

not calling anyone racist - however the Turkish/Kurdish barbers here do brisk business as all the traditional barbers were killed by Covid. I use the two car washes in town from time to time - I choose the one with the shortest queue when I want the car cleaned. They are all there all day every day I am amazed that Cleveland Police, HMRC and the borders Agency have yet to swoop.

BTW I can't get my car cleaned unless I pay by card.
Is it a birthday card with a £20 note stuck in it?

I'm guessing trading standards that have just been on breakfast tv are also making it up doh! Anyhow ignore them and the legit traders complaints because blueuntrue has had another Hans Christian moment in his small village.

Every fucking occupation and expert analyst lives in that village:-)

This is a fucking belter even by his own standards pmsl

Planet make it up to prove what I’m saying again lol
