TV Series

Loved Breaking Bad, but have really struggled to get into Better Call Saul. Seems like I'm missing out.

For the last 3 seasons (3,4 & 5) it gets better and better by the episode, but I do think it took maybe 15 episodes to get into its stride and go from interesting, fun spinoff to compelling series in its own right.

Today's episode was absolutely brilliant. I think it's surpassing all but the very best Breaking Bad episodes.

IMO Saul is inherently a much better character to build a series around than Walter White, because while it was incredibly gripping watching WW's descent...his character was always headed in 1 direction, almost from the end of the first season, and we just watched as the inevitable unfolded in slow motion.

Saul...even though we know where he ends up, I still after 5 seasons don't know how he gets there, and he's much more sympathetic.

I never actually finished the final season of Breaking Bad because it got to where I really didn't care about any of the characters. I didn't find them at all likeable or find their motivation by that point interesting enough to want to watch what happened to them anymore.

I find the toughest thing about watching Better Call Saul is simply the juxtaposition of an aging cast that is meant to predate Breaking Bad - you see Mike and you think, he looks like he's ready for a nursing home now whereas in the future he is younger in appearance. Same goes for Gus. There's a minimum of 7 year gap in timelines but at this age bracket, it feels like double

It's good and like in BB, the main character drives the series - Saul is brilliantly portrayed in all it's nuances from episode to episode by Odenkirk

It's great to get the back story on Saul (esp. with his brother & law firm) & some of Mike & Gus but overall BB still a more compelling series simply because there are more elements in constant motion. In Better Call Saul, you are left with less to work with in very defined parameters - the writers do great with it but the path is fairly well laid out in contrast. Enjoyable but suspense is muted since you know what lies ahead

I loved Breaking Bad but Season 5 was awful. Felt a completely different production team had taken over the reins (or they’d given power to the cast). It actually soured my whole experience of BB for a few years.

Watched first episode of Saul some time ago then left it. Watched the second one last night and immediately got it. Think I’m going to really enjoy this now.

I thought season 5 was a great season and a fitting ending to a superb show if not the best show of all time

Yep, there's no point making the characters that extreme that there's no connection to be had with any of them.

I don't really watch "normal" TV any more but I've really been enjoying "The Quiz " on ITV which is a drama based on the "coughing" scandal on Who wants to be a Millionaire?

No doubt some parts may move away from what actually happened but I think they have done a great job of portraying the family and the network of fanatics who tried to get on to the show. A lot of subtle and pleasant throwbacks to the late 90s and early 00s in the show.

They had the same problem in ‘El Camino’.

Todd is about 30lbs heavier and looks much older than when he first appeared in Breaking Bad during the train heist.

I’m surprised Gilligan didn’t go down The Irishman route by using de-aging technology.
