TV Series

Am also working my way through the BBC’s ‘Hollow Crown’ adaptations of Shakespeare’s history plays.

Started with Richard II. In the 'Making Of ' extra, Ben Whishaw mentioned how the template for playing Richard was provided by Michael Jackson, Morrissey, and Jesus, as well as the fact that this monarch almost certainly had some kind of narcissistic personality disorder.

This may sound a bit weird but it works brilliantly.

Shakespeare can be off-putting because you get forced to study him at school and the language can be hard to follow. But this first play has turned out to be accessible and gripping and I am finally starting to appreciate the guy’s genius for myself rather than because of his formidable reputation.

Still haven't caught the new lot yet. I guess it's down to what source it's on.

I hesitated for ages because I wasn’t sure whether I would click with the revival but was finally persuaded by the online price of the DVD (it’s been reduced) and the fact that it includes loads of extras.

I haven’t been disappointed and a mate of mine who has already watched the whole thing reckons that the final episode is one of the very best.

It’s also a remarkable piece of work for a guy who was about 70 when it was filmed, just for the sheer amount of work that it must have involved and the relentlessly imaginative, beguiling artistry of the whole thing. It really is unique and Lynch has been on top of his game throughout so far.

That'll be his TM!

Tried that Umbrella Academy with my son last night. Hoped it would be another show we both bonded over and looked forward to but it missed the mark. I could feel it as I watched it. It's well made and maybe something I'd watch alone but it was slow paced and he wasn't particularly enjoying it.
Managed about half of the first episode but he was sleepy so may try and finish, but I suspect we'll be searching for the next 'stranger things' to both watch. It's also hard to compete with his online activities (connected to his friends over FaceTime/roblox which has been great for him during the lockdown...but as we know, these devices eat us up.
