TV Series

Ok I know I have been banging the drum on this one for some time now but Hacks truly is phenomenal.

It’s now completely finished …5 seasons in total and the finale was some of the best tv I’ve ever seen.

Thought it might be one largely for the fairer sex like myself, however I’ve heard Gary Oldman is amongst its celeb fans.

Funny, touching, heart warming, sharp, current ….phenomenal. Jean Smart has won Best Actress in a comedy Emmy for the last 4 years, it will be a travesty if she doesn’t win it again this time out.

Will be rewatching on repeat

Watched first couple of episodes of second series of Beef, really enjoyed the first series as it was mad as fuck, it’s one of those where it’s a completely different cast and story. Absolute wank.
Yea different beef. Not much more they could milk from the last one.

I find S2 better than S1. The characters are far less annoying, the tension is higher and it is a fair bit darker.

I'm half way through this and did wonder what you'd make of it. The language was a surprise with lots of adult words in there. Did you watch in black and white or colour?

After the first episode I thought it would be quite annoying as I thought Cage's secretary was going to be used to make bad jokes but she's calmed down a bit and it's got a bit more serious.

Yes, it's surprisingly 'adult', isn't it?! I feel you on the secretary. It feels like the writers don't quite know what role she's useful for, foil-wise.

I watched the colour first and will watch the B&W on the weekend to get it some space.

Let me know your thoughts when you get around to finishing it.

We just felt it was like a shit attempt at White Lotus, horses for courses.

Agreed.

The brilliance of the first series was its particular set of unique circumstances spiralling out of control. The second had a premise that got lost up its own arse as the writers didn't know what else to do with half the show.

Finished it yesterday. I enjoyed it on the most part. Little quibble with Janet early in the series and the title sequence is in that modern style that everyone uses right now which felt at odds with the care they had taken to make the series feel like it was made in the 1940's. Some really nice shots in the last few episodes - there was one in the scene with Janet and Cat where Cat is shot through a glass that Janet removes. The scene with Cat and Silvermane in the mirror room was also memorable. I'm not familiar enough with noir to make any comments about how noirish it felt and I also don't know the comics but I enjoyed it over all. The more serious it took itself the better it was though.

Cage does get crazier as the series goes and I did enjoy his performance. I thought his fight scenes were choreographed really well ie they weren't shot like it was Tom Hollands spider man. They felt much more grounded in reality even though it's a super hero series.

There were a couple of moments with the writing where I felt like characters knew something they shouldn't have known but that also might have been me not paying enough attention and the wise cracking kid was annoying. But it had much more successes than failures.

Anyone looking forward to House of the Dragon? I feel the whole thing has been so dis-agreggated that nobody could give a toss.
The wait between seasons for House of the Dragon is too long but people still care, I think. And having read Fire & Blood, this season will bring back on board those who jumped off during season two over a lack of action and incident. Word of mouth will do this season a lot of favours imo.

The writers were put into an unenviable position for season two - 10 episodes were fully written, HBO then told them to cut it down to eight episodes a month before filming, then the writers strike happened - and it meant they just had to cut the last two episodes off instead of condensing them.

Season three will kick off where season two should have ended and then we get into the most exciting bit of the book by far. People will be battled and plot twisted almost to exhaustion by the end. I actually think there's too much to squeeze in and I'm a little worried about that, but I trust them to pace it carefully.

Season 2 of Longmire done.!oving it.
Brilliant series, we watched the lot back to back about a year ago, pity it ended after season 6.

Just watched Dutton Ranch, 4 episodes in and it’s excellent … don’t you just hate waiting for a new one to drop?

Aww, I liked the kid!!

But, yes, some of cinematography shooting was straight out of 'noir' depiction. Loved those shots (something I, similarly, created in my own college filmmaking shoots back in the day), although, much more angled shots would have added to the overall feel.

But, overall, I concur with your post.

I’ll have to watch a recap because I’ve no idea what went on in the last two seasons now! It’s far too long between them to care anymore, don’t get me wrong they are good bit fuck me they take longer to make than Martin does to write the damn things.

Finally watched Sunday's episode of From. Carries on like this and it could rival LOST in my top 3 of all time. The fucking suspense is madness.

I’m racing through re-watching the first three series while there’s no football on, so I’m fully prepared for the fourth series. Can’t wait. Unfortunately I’m probably going to have to wait, when the World Cup takes over my life for a month shortly.

This was supposed to be in reply to the guy talking about ’From’ btw. Not sure what happened there.
