TV Series

State of Happiness, Series 2 is on BBC4 just now. A Norwegian series about the early days of the oil industry based in Stavanger. Sounds dry. It isn't, Fantastic young cast, well written and acted, part drama, part political thriller, crammed with 70's detail. Series 1 was very good. Series 2 if anything is better.

Trying, Apple TV. If you want something feel good, amusing with a likeable cast including Timothy Spalls lad then this is worth a try. About a young couple wanting to adopt, it sometimes teeters on the edge of cheesy but never quite goes the full cheddar. Three series on Apple TV we could do with a little sunshine these days.

Rafe Spall, liked the comedy Pete versus Life with him in it from a few years ago. Don’t know if it’s stood the test of time but there were some very funny scenes in the programme.

'Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' sets Amazon Prime viewing record
Amazon Studios
The two-episode premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power drew 25 million viewers around the world in 24 hours, making it the biggest debut in Prime Video's history, Amazon said in a press release. "It is somehow fitting that Tolkien’s stories — among the most popular of all time, and what many consider to be the true origin of the fantasy genre — have led us to this proud moment," said Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke.

There was a lot on the line for the series, with a reported $465 million budget for the first season and heavy competition from HBO's rival House of Dragons series. The latter also recently debuted to the highest ratings in HBO's history with 9.986 million viewers across its linear HBO and streaming HBO Max platforms.

Amazon also took the unusual step of delaying reviews for The Rings of Power by 72 hours to filter out trolls, Variety reported. It appeared to have been "review bombed" on sites like Rotten Tomatoes, where it received a 37 percent rating from users but an 84 percent mark from critics. The series has faced trolling over its decision to cast actors of color as elves, dwarves and other characters
Everyone knows there weren't people of colour in a fantasy land that never existed. It's just too much nowadays.

Anyone watching,The Sandman?

I've seen it all now, kept falling asleep, not because it's boring, I've been tired. All of the episodes I mean. Ive got critizisms, but it's a hell of a show so I don't wanna talk shit. imagine if they did a scanner darkly thing with it though

For me it fell into the category of Netflix shows I liked, but probably only because I binge watched it. If it had been a weekly thing I'm not sure I'd have made it to the end. All Gaiman adaptations feel very similar to me, and they all feel a bit inferior to Season 1 of American Gods.

Any feedback on The Man in the High Castle? I really like alternative history series if they're done well, and I'm a bit intrigued. Might even sign up to Amazon Prime just for that. And then cancel. (Not a lot else on there takes my fancy, to be honest).

good new s - Really enjoyed the first season as wasn’t expecting much but pleasantly surprised at the story lines interwoven with the history of Norways North Sea oil discoveries .
