Speaking as Sale resident, it was one of the few remaining non charity/food/drink places left in the revitalized Shopping arcade. I hadn't been in since... pre-covid... and a lot has changed around it since then - the revitalisation, the difference in shop usage. The Sale square is essentially now just charity/food/drink when Wilko goes.Sad news.
I imagine having too many stores in low footfall areas combined with high rent was a key factor. I personally don't think they did much wrong with most stores looking modern and offered "order online, collect in store". High streets are just dead.
Cost of raw materials and production are through the roof in China, so would have been tough to keep prices down whilst maintaining a healthy margin.
Mate of mine went to the Trafford Centre recently. Dead
Wiko on the brink of collapse. Administrators brought in.
400 shops and 12,000 staff at risk
I love Radio Rentals. They haven't put my standing order up in 20 years.Fortunately McFisheries are still with us.
I would say you can go down rhe road to a B&M or Home Bargains and get what Wilko offer cheaper than a sudden rise in Temu and the like, there is 4 B&Ms ls within a mile or two of the one Wilkos near me and all are pretty busy when I go in.Apps like TEMU having an effect..Chinese company I believe. 1 of many
They have been battered by the discounters like B&M for tradeOnce the older generation have gone the high street will follow. Always found it a useful shop but they're a jack of all trades and all the supermarkets sell similar, can't see how they'll survive.
On the subject of temu it's Chinese counterfeit shite, I can't believe how they are allowed to operate in this country, it's wrong. Also it has been reported by some people that their payment system isn't safe and extra money has been taken at later dates.
I'm more of a Redifusion man myself.I love Radio Rentals. They haven't put my standing order up in 20 years.
