But it doesn't work like that... a smaller club does not improve your chance at making it, you'll get first team football sooner but a much poorer football education which will stand you in better stead in the long run? I know which I'd choose anyway. You've not really explained why Oldham would be better than Manchester City... it's really not you only think it is, you have to be careful equating first team football at a much lower level sooner with a poorer footballing education is better than the best education you can get with a team of professionals that will find you a club for first team football should you not make the first team.But it doesn't work like that. Of course we have amazing facilities, but being at City doesn't mean it improves your chance of making it in football. It can actually work against you.
Being at a smaller club, like Bury, or Oldham Athletic can improve your chances of making it - which are still slim, but it can certainly have less attrition at that level.
This is the big problem with big name clubs - young kids are drawn to big names, and often their parents are too, and that's where the false hope comes from... the faintest hope of playing for City / United / Liverpool etc is VERY persuasive, but the child can still be better served at Oldham, or Southampton etc. We have to be so careful about equating the best facilities with the best chance at making it. It's not the same thing and it's one of the reasons the rules are in place to stop big clubs dazzling kids and their parents.
At the end of the day the kid from Oldham would be much less likely to make it to the level required at City that's a fact and a major flaw in your reasoning, just because a lad from our academy doesn't make the first team doesn't mean he's failed completely he'll still be at a higher level than the Oldham kid.

Given @Frank76 's posting history especially on the academy thread I wouldn't take him seriously.Well you are of course correct. Fans do not understand the recruitment of kids.
However it is just as naive to believe City are worse than some other clubs in this.
As I said before as the size of the club increases it gets more and more difficult to control. We do have unscrupulous employees, that i am sure, as do other clubs.

It's the worst kept secret in youth football! As I said we have over ten players taken from other cat one academies in north west at younger ages. I'm not aware of Liverpool having one, it's a fact United don't have one. Everton I'm not sure. It was only a matter of time before we got caught out.

For telling the truth and suggesting there'd currently no pathway into first team. Like I'm on my own with that accusation!

I do appreciate your knowledge and experience of the City academy. I do know a little myself about academy football. To deny that inducements are not commonplace is naive.
If you are say a Spanish National 16 yr old living in a third country with your sibling and family. Then you arrive in Manchester with your whole family, for a 3 year stint. How , if there is no money do your family live and your siblings get educated.
I am not being anti city here just a realist.

Sounds like a brilliant suggestion for a club that's just had it's knuckles rapped for bending the rules!
Do you currently work in Academy recruitment?
If its not in the rules why not ?
I do not work in academy recruitment but even you must realise that our clubs owners sanctioned the wrong doing or were not doing their job in knowing it was going on.
During FFP it was a contest between our accountants and theirs as to how the rules could be used to advantage so lets have none of this fear of testing the rules nonsense.
