Txiki Begiristain | Has left the club after 13 years (pg50)

Strange way of looking at it. Lot of ins and outs to do, plus 2 separate windows to work with, and need some sort of plan to have a squad for the CWC, yet still move players in and out. Maybe mini contract extension for KDB.
Would be unfair to just say to Viana heres your office in you go sort that pile of jobs out.Makes perfect sense for Txiki to hang around a month or so.
To me, that's a stranger way of looking at it. Nice and lovely....but strange.

More concerned than ever that he's staying to "help".
Not just after that debacle, but he's lost his touch and recommending players like Doku that added nothing to how we play, except leave us vulnerable.
Wanted the new man to stamp his authority.
I was going to say the same thing. Soon as I heard he was staying I said that’s not a good thing.

Should have been sacked for the results of his work imo, instead he gets paid a few months extra to fix his bullshit

You put it harsher than me, but difficult to argue. Seems the club have been in sentimental mode since the Trenle. Needs to get ruthless again.
To be fair to him though, the line-up today made it pretty clear to me that Pep has taken his eye of the ball and is probably just as responsible for asking for the old-guard to be kept together while we sell off our squad-strenght.

A good DoF sees what everone else sees though, and that is weakening an already weakened side in the summer is lunacy, and Gundogan as the only midfield signing frankly sackable. Txiki imo, isn't really a good DoF though and did what he has done all his career. Relied on his incredibly gifted mate to work his magic

De Bruyne not getting another contract is a good start though, but letting him stink out the derby for 90 minutes 24 hours after the news? Make it make sense

Is he leaving us with a squad better or worse than when he arrived? I’d venture it’s very much the latter
Thanks for the memories but probably at least a year too late. The complacency since the treble has been damaging, but he isn’t alone in that regard

good thing was him and Viana was sitting there and made to watch this performance in the derby. I cannot imagine Viana not asking some hard questions from Txiki why is the squad in this state.

why was it let to rot. why a brutal huge rebuild is needed all of a sudden, why wasnt it done bit by bit after the treble.

Viana also will be given instructions is terms of what is needed from him. is he here to assist Pep or is he here to build a squad capable of going the distance in multiple fronts.

really interested to see how the certain friendly approach between DoF and manager will change we had due to Txiki/Pep life long friendship compared to now what he will have with Viana which could be more professional also a bit of a strange situation of a goat manager and a rookie DoF, not exactly rookie in Portugal but havent run the show at a top club of a top league before.

imagine if Viana wants to get rid of Gundo and Walker the summer and Pep wants them to stay. maybe thats why Txiki is staying few more weeks.:)

The 115 could explain the last year tbh

It’s good to have new blood to freshen things up from time to time.

The harmony will continue or Viana will be out the door. Pep is Khaldoon’s man and the goat at city. I look at it bit like Arteta, we did ok with a young assistant. New ideas and a fresh approach to signings is badly needed.

Holistic -:)

another sushi dinner between him and Pep begging him to stay. he is still our player only on loan to AC Milan. we need to sell him or release him or he is back.
yeah, mate, i know he's on loan,
but he is already gone.
it's over.
he won't play another game for us.

i simply found it odd that of all the scenarios you could've come up with to support your unlikely argument you chose walker.
there are plenty of other current first team players that would've made much more sense to fit in with your idea.

just sayin'.

Whoever is in charge of the rebuild, any player sales or contract renewals have to be the responsibility of the DOF and taken out of Peps hands.

Pep should have his say but the final decision should be the DOF and Pep can focus primarily on coaching.

At the end of the day, this is the "holistic" model the club chose to go with over 10 years ago and as far we are concerned right now, Pep only has 2 years left. The next rebuild is bigger than building a team just for Pep.

This rebuild is as big as the team building was back in 09-12 when we first won the PL.

This isn't like when Pep first took over. That side had Kompany, Aguero, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho all part of it in their prime.

All of them have a shout of getting into the PL all time squad.

This side has just Haaland and Rodri at the moment. Dias is class but he isn't what Kompany was for us back then and the current Foden isn't what Silva or De Bruyne was.
