Txiki Begiristain

If his relationship with Pep was so good then I don't think Pep would have chosen to manage Bayern for three years over us which clearly he saw as a much better proposition in terms of adding to his trophy cabinet etc.

That's three years we had a makeshift manager who wasn't the first choice of his employers to deal with and in his first season and perhaps for part of his second he managed to do ok with a side on the decline.

He finally gets his man and then proceeds to oversee another very ordinary transfer window as it turns out.

If we miss out on top four which is looking far more likely than less likely at this stage you would have to think that its Txiki's last chance saloon next summer.

I don't buy into it was solely the relationship between the Barco duo and Pep that got him hear.

Who knows he might have come earlier if we didn't have him as DOF , he wasn't DOF of Bayern when Pep was managing Bayern.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pep couldn't care less who was DOF as long as he had a working relationship with the individual and the resources needed to get the best results for the first team.

At the moment he certainly doesn't have the latter and who knows he might not have the former either.

Relationships come and go often very quickly especially in an emotional sport like football but in the end the manager rides and falls on the performance of the first team and so far Pep would not be nearly content with how its panned out and some of his disappointment would be aimed at the DOF for sure.

But you`ve hit the nail on the head.We had another Manager at the time who wanted certain players to be kept on and indeed be given a new contract.Thats hardly the fault of one man,Txiki,as he would have had to put a case forward to his boss and we can all speculate, but I bet at the end of the day it would be Soriano and/or Khaldoon who would have the final say on such matters.
I do however believe that Pep had a lot of input prior to him being named as our new manager,as to who he would like,Sane and Gundogan I bet were all his "signings" plus the year prior we aslo got KDB and I bet he was told who Citys next manager would be.
I`m not so sure ref Pep coming, had his Barca friends not been at the club and thats something we`ll never know I suppose.
Anyway the bottom line is,with a bit of luck we`ll be shipping at least 6 current players out and it will sure be fun to see who else Pep wants. It will be great if Tolms statement turns out to be true (and I`ve no reason to doubt Tolm, never had) then maybe the reason for a contract extension is Peps way of saying "it will take longer than I envisaged" to bring together and galvanise a new and younger squad.
People can argue all they like about an ageing squad and I`m one of those, but perhaps Txiki hands were tied.Wonderful thing hindsight aint it mate and lets be fair as fans we all think we know better than those that actually do.
But thats what football does and a forum. It would be rather dull if we all thought the same. ;)

Fair do but only Fernandinho ( maybe ) most likely will be the only player in Txiki's time at the club who may still be with us come next season if Pep got all his targets and got rid of those he didn't want outside those recruited two seasons ago and over last summer which doesn't bode to well for our transfer activity in recent times and he is well into his thirties now.

He got rid of Hart , Mangala and Nasri all still in their twenties and with a fair bit of football left in them you would think albeit all on loan and none of them will return to the club as will any of the other players we have loaned out to pay first team football.

As I said before you cannot keep getting it wrong in the transfer market and expect to keep getting opportunities to make the same mistakes for too long.

He didn`t want Nasri to go,that has been well documented by the player himself.I look at Fernandino and still see at least another 2-3 years in him due to his athleticism. Mangola I can understand why he wasn`t keen on that lad.I just think that the PL wasn`t best suited to his type of play, but he`ll probably fair much better in another European League.
We may well still have Komps if he can finally prove his fitness,Bravo who will stay unless he wants to move due to home sickness (or so we keep reading). Both Kolarov and Zabs were well on their way out,but with having at the time 12 months left on their contract they may well have said fuck it and decided to see out the remainder of that contact.
The thing is that will start all over again, whenever Peps tenure comes to an end.A new Manager, fresh ideas and different types of players,or maybe we will have some hidden gems within our Academy, that will save us £M`s.

I don`t think theres any problem in blaming a Committee, but to blame just one person,Txiki,is just ridiculous.
We won't agree on this and I'm not blaming Txiki alone for us ending up with 6 wingers on the books, 4 full backs well past it, 3 top class players who are all best in the same position behind the striker and the great idea of whittling 4 top class strikers down to 1 who is probably on the decline and injury prone and an ageing team who in the last couple of years and this year are most likely at best to scrape top 4. But this is a thread about Txiki so I think it only fair as do others to have a view saying he probably has a lot to do with it.
Of course it's fabulous to have Pep but no one wants a typical City scenario of having it all before us in 2012 and then ending up out of CL for more than one season because the income streams and fan base are dependent on a successful team. I just think that the Conmittee as you put it need to pull their fingers out and ship out and in the right players and hope we can get top 4 and give Pep the platform he needs.
A win against Tottenham would be a great start

6 wingers !!! ??? WTF.You`re also doing Sagna a disservice as he`s been again one of the better players throughout the last 18 months. Please open your eyes as you know full well that some of your numbers include players who will NOT be here next season anyway due to contractual terminations.
I think as you say, we`ll agree to disagree.
