Txiki Begiristain

Can accept not buying a striker now if the rumours are true and haaland is available in January.
so you can accept putting our season at risk by going into the first half of the season toothless upfront. You seen the inept performances in the CL and CS. Both of them games had something in common, nothing upfront for the midfield to hit. Ronaldo wasn't the answer but management should of had a plan B if Levy played daft bugger like we all knew he would.

funny post.

Buying players is not and never has been an exact science. There is not a club, a manager, a director of football in history who has got every signing right, why? because there are too many variables.

You can scout players, you can research their background, you can find out about their educational achievement, you can speak to people who know them best and you can speak to players who have played with and against them.

Then you can make a bid for a player, the club the player is at may value them far more than you are willing to pay, but if you believe you have done your homework and the player potentially suits the squad you may meet the selling clubs valuation. However that does not mean the player settles into his new club, he may be unhappy he was sold, he may be unhappy his children have to move schools, his wife might not like the new house you move to, you may not get on with your new team mates, your team mates may resent your purchase and be concerned about their position in the squad. They may think Manchester is cold, it rains too much, the shopping is rubbish, its far from home, the food is crap. The area they move to may have awful neighbours, they might not like driving on the other side of the road, there may not be direct flights to their homeland.

Footballers believe it or not are human beings, they have the same hopes and fears as normal everyday people do, because after all, they are here to do a job, they are not here because they love Manchester City (although that may follow)

Mendy could have been a world class left back, but he suffered injuries and is now in court, Cancelo moved from Italy and struggled to adapt, because living in a foreign country is hard, there are different laws, there is different money, different customs, as Ian Rush said when playing for Juventus " its like living in a foreign country"

When you take all these aspects into account it is surprising 1 in 10 transfers actually work out not 9 out of 10, because some characters are made for it, some are not. Some may be outgoing and willing to learn , some may be introverted, shy and frightened, because they are human.

Over the years there have been hundreds of failed signings for every club in the country, no club always gets it right, Tkiki's record is decent, he has got some wrong, he has got some right because Tkiki is also human and he will have flaws and his judgement will not always be perfect, but to be so dismissive of the job he has done in my opinion smacks of a total lack of understanding about how difficult the job is. City have 1000's of players on their scouting database and to get it right every time has to be virtually impossible because of the variables.

A valid opinion, but the process would make sense if our manager left when he's offered a international job, or is sacked. Not putting it our there that he's looking to take that job in just two seasons. If and when Pep goes, Txiki and Ferrano will be gone within a year. It's not the number of poor signings, its the apparent lack of forward planning that is annoying. We will likely have to look to replace the following, Fernie, Walker, KDB, Mahrez and Gundy over the next 3 seasons, yet have yet to replace our left back, or stand out forward who has been getting older for 10 seasons.

I think you need to factor in the difficulty of the deals we've been, or not been, involved in during this window. According to Pep there were no negotiations for Kane because Spurs/Levy wouldn't negotiate. Whether that's true or not who knows but it does fit with what Levy has said and with his persona. Both Messi and Ronaldo are extremely expensive, mid thirties, not our first choices and not exactly what we need. We could possibly have got Messi over the line if we'd chucked a bucket load of money at it but we were clearly either not prepared to do that or, financially, weren't able to. Ronaldo was always going somewhere else unless we were the only game in town. We might not have got who we wanted but we haven't broken the bank for someone we didn't really want either.
Tough to take but this.

when you are only ordering from the absolute top table its 3 choices.
1. get your target - EXTREMELY DIFFICULT
2. Go for someone you done really want, either too old and expensive or not good enough
3. Leave it till next time

Bollocks, the team selection in midfield caused the debacle.

Id accept it due to the situation we are in (no other options) and haaland would be the answer to our problems in jan. Agree with you on your other points, but looks like its too late! Personally I would have signed Ings to fill the void for this season.

Blues can we chill out here a little bit? Ronaldo was never a target but landed in our laps as an option. A very expensive option. We didn’t want to pay a fee and it sounds like Utd have shit themselves and gone in balls deep just as they did for Sanchez when we had interest in him. Ronaldo is still good but let’s not forget we have improved the squad from last year. Talk of us being toothless up front is just not accurate and basing that on our performance in the Community Shield when half the team was missing and barely back in training is frankly ridiculous. We will be fine and are still massive favourites for the title even without a new no 9. Talk on this forum of members of our board being incompetent including Cheeky is frankly absurd. Please folks let’s just calm down and remember how good these players and this team are!

If Txiki goes Pep goes I reckon.

tbh i don’t think the targets are bad at all, it’s the process of signing them that’s fucking abysmal.

Omar Berrada is responsible for that, should go after this summer imo.

We struggled to pay the Grealish fee ffs, should have been done day after the season finished.
Pretty sure Omar Berrada has a boss...

Even if we signed Haaland, Messi, Ronaldo, whoever, one bad injury means we’d still have no strikers. Criminal we’re so short in that position.

Think the problem with buying Haarland is his agent and the millions he wants to service the deal.
