Txiki recruitment

8/10

Mostly he and his team have done great in what is an almost impossible task to get 100% right.

My biggest gripe is a lack of striking options.

I don't think that is Txiki as much as Pep. Txiki signed Negredo and Jovetić to rotate with Agüero and Džeko when Pellegrini was manager. He also signed Bony and Iheanacho. I think 2 STs is a conscious decision from Pep.

Yeah probably, but irrespective of the decision maker.....it was very shortsighted. We are probably the only top team in Europe with such restricted options up top.

Personally I think our striking options would look better if Delap had been trusted to play a bit more.

Some of his signings are rubbish, recently that's been Mahrez, Rodri, Mendy all for huge money

And he seems to wait a season sometimes 2 to plug obvious gaps in the squad (we've needed a left back for 3 years, before Dias a CB for 12 months etc)

After a lot of slagging off... starting to look better than a lot of blues initially thought?
As hit and miss as it ever has been.

We’ve still not got a left back and have needed one since 2015 when both Clichy and Kolarov started to creep over 30 and both became inconsistent. Mendy isn’t good enough, Zinchenko is good as a stand-in but any lengthy runs in the team he’s just not got the quality, Cancelo is a right back. 6 years is a long time to be waiting for a proper player in a position.

I don’t know how much notice Kompany gave the club about leaving, but he was either too late in telling us or the club weren’t active enough to bring in the right player as soon as he left. It ruined our season last season, not only in defence but we took the world’s best defensive mid out of midfield so it ruined our defence and midfield.

We now have him though. Dias is the business!

Rodri doesn’t suit us, only plays well when he’s not pressed and the game slows down to his pace. Any time the game is fast or especially when he’s pressed, he’s either useless or at best average.

We allowed David Silva to leave and have not replaced him, and boy have we noticed!

We have allowed Kun to get to over 30 and have only one player to play instead of him when he’s not there. Our strength in depth up front is lacking. None of the other forwards can really play as a striker.

Mahrez. We never needed him, he doesn’t suit us, he’s completely the wrong player for this club.

Still a long way to go with this squad yet.

Some of you need to wake up to the realisation that this is proper football and not fantasy football where you can sign who you want, when you want and money is no object.
Timing is also one of the biggest factors in getting it right.Look at how many of us complained about getting it wrong when we failed to sign VVD and even Slabhead.Look what we got instead ... a young dynamic centre half who one day will become our captain.
Likewise trying to find someone anywhere near as good as Kun is a worry .. but long term I trust those in charge of our club than the constant whinging from some wet knickers.

bingo! plus its not just txiki who picks the players its a management process? Txiki also wanted dybala when pellegrini demanded Bony yet txiki gets the blame for backing the managers choice? People talking about Mendy and unfortunately it hasnt worked out but he was superb for Monaco and against us in the champions league ties and everyone was buzzing when we signed him? Even Mahrez was possibly not a necessary signing but when we beat the dippers to the title he was brilliant the final 6 weeks of that season?!

We had 6 out with Covid and another couple out with injury yesterday and were able to put on a display like that against a top 6 team and bring Fern, Mahrez and Aguero off the bench. That tells you all you need to know about squad strength.

Ok we need to find a replacement for Kun and a quality left Back, but Txiki has done a fine job.

I think and I am sure Pep gets the players he wants, his power and influence at the club is so strong.

If we could get a quality striker into this squad we could go on and win the lot.

Unfortunately it's looking bad for Kun.
