T'Yorkshire Challenge

And people on here make fun of the language differences between English and Amercans - there's more language variation within a ten mile radius of Central Manchester!

I don't know anyone that has afternoon tea other than maybe the Queen. It just sounded like something an American would think goes on.

Afternoon tea is huge over here now mate. Its the acceptable face of women drinking in the day :-)

Having a posh southern wife I am having to bring the kids up bilingual. The Shame I felt when I went round to me mam's and she stood up and said she was going to make the tea and my eldest son replied he could make cups of tea.

Spent many a late night trying to explain that you eat breakfast dinner and tea. A cup of tea is called a brew. Plus you eat a chip muffin and any item of food that contains the word cake should be eaten as afters(or desert if you are posh).

I have a mate called Pete who once at villa park asked for chip's pudding and gravy. The kid behind the counter looked puzzled and replied we don't do gravy and whats a pudding. This was the last away game he went to south of the Cheshire border.
Anywhere south of Cheshire is in France to me.

In Huddersfield they call them a chip tea cake.

It's a barm and always will be. As is Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Feel free to ring up a restaurant tonight and make a reservation for tea - they will tell you they don't do cucumber sandwiches.

I bet you didn’t have “Lunch Ladies” at your school ;-)

Someone from Devon in my work asked me why I call lunch dinner and then asked what I call dinner. She was genuinely puzzled.

How the hell did we allow the likes of them into our lovely club, polluting everything they touch? It isn't right, and needs dealing with. And as for "bread cake"; WTF? Everyone knows it's "barm". Also; "breakfast, dinner and tea"? Nonsense. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, obviously.

It’s a bun where I live. When you go to the shop to buy a known brand, they will be labelled as buns, that’s all throughout the country. If not bun, then it’s probably going to be a roll. Fucking bread cakes and barms! Breakfast, dinner and tea too.
