UK ‘Special Forces’

This goes someway to demonstrating the mentality of Special Forces personnel (in this case RM Commando's).

During training and preparation for cliff assaults, Commando's would climb this near 200m ridge climb (Trad VD) in full fighting kit, all weathers, day and night.

I've done it a couple of times wearing stiff sole modern walking boots, with a rucksack, and it's no easy climb, despite the relatively low grade.

They were called the Cockleshell Heroes weren't they?
I don't know mate, I didn't get into that much depth chatting with him. I only met him 2 or 3 times, and he was very very old at the time. Sounds like him and my dad got quite into it (over large amounts of whisky) though. My dad was in awe of the guy, had some incredible tales to tell.

I was in the Cheshire's, my section commander joined 22, One of my mates was an interpreter for them in Afghanistan dishing out gold krugarrand's for info. Both out now.

Most of us that were in the SAS never talk about it, I know I won't. Why would I boast about the time I killed 3 people in Iraq with just a rubber band and some paper clips? Or the time I tapped two Isis fellahs with just a toothbrush, the worst one though was a bloke called Bin Laden, OK he was just asking for it but Im not going to boast and you will never hear me mention the time I saved Diana's life. My rock she called me but I prefer to keep myself to myself.

Thanks for your service, you're a hero in my eyes
