UK derbies/rivalries in order of intensity...

Oxford v Swindon

-- Sat Aug 27, 2011 6:33 pm --

St Margaret Ward v Cherry Manor. Catholics v Proddies. Thats was tense in sale as a 10 year old. Only council fences seperated the hatred :)

Are those derbies all based on local/regional rivalries or are some of them also based on political rivalry (left vs. right like in other countries) or social differencies (rich vs. poor, Upper class vs. working class)?

They are all based on geography really (local rivalry). Football fans in the UK do not get involved in politics at all (left/ right etc) and basically all football fans are from the same class really (apart from Arsenal, their support is full of middle class herberts) so there is no social differences here.

The Belfast derby Linfield v Glentoran can be a little bit feisty, they used to climb onto the rafters above the terracing at the oval to have a scrap and on more than one occassion it has erupted into a riot on the pitch.

Oh please city and united isn't a fierce rivarly. It was practically non existant up till now. It definitely isn't as intense as tottenham arsenal .

Agreed, the prawn sandwiches are flying all over the show when Spurs play Arsenal. I've also heard many demands for satisfaction.
