Genuinely, what would you suggest?

Honestly, the police are probably doing the right thing for the most part. Keep them away from vulnerable people/groups. Keep them away from counter protesters. Don't risk more violence for the sake of property. Watch, wait, and then (hopefully) mass arrests of those witnessed committed crimes over the next few weeks. Obviously that is based on the assumption that the final step of that actually happens, otherwise they're just letting thugs run riot without consequence.

Think this thread needs a new title. Many of these people are simply protesting about the state of the country and are Not far Right. The title of this thread is simply feeding the media agenda.

We have created an underclass of lawless self entitled twats.

Is that anything new? There has always been an underclass of lawless self-entitled twats in England, for centuries and more. Basically, everyone is a **** beneath a thin layer of civility and everyone has a trigger at which point that layer is broken. I know I am and I know I do :)

It is the job of government to protect society as a whole from those triggers. Probably one of its most important jobs actually. There is no point balancing the budget if the country is rioting itself to an early grave. I suspect you could say governments over the last few decades have spectacularly failed to do that job adequately.

To be fair to them, though, I suppose you could also argue that the amount of information available on the internet these days, combined with an inability in the general population to process the information intelligently has made that job exponentially more difficult. You only have to look at the politics threads on here to see that. Ironic that the internet was supposed to usher in a wonderful information age, but most of it has become infested with the absolute excrement that is 90% of social media content.
