Honestly id say the express is even less reputable than the sun and the mirror if thats possible, all the tabloids are awful and time was you would listen to the broadsheets as they would have some sense of reputation but they are becoming exactly the same.

They all have their own political agenda, which is thoroughly depressing.

15 or so years ago you used to get fairly balanced intelligent news in the Guardian and the Times but both of those papers are now full of the same dogmatic populist fodder as the tabloids. They're just chasing sales (or these days, paywall subscriptions) from their left and right wing political base rather than trying to do anything meaningful in terms of accurate news reporting.

IMO it has its big problems as an institution but for pure news reporting I tend to rely on the BBC.

Social media is probably one of the biggest threats for stability out there at the moment.

When something happens you get it posted here in huge amounts, usually straight from Twitter (X) and always from the truthful echo chamber of the poster who posts it.

Sometimes there is even a small complaint that social media is a cess pit, not their timeline mind because they vet their timeline.

This guy's name rang a bell so I checked. He came to Rabin's attention over some anti-City stuff. He works in Qatar, at an American university, and he's very pro-Qatar. He's always trying to pin stuff on 'malicious actors' (i.e., the UAE) including disinformation aimed at Qatar.

It is an interesting thread though, and shows how wide the reach of social media is, and how malign it can be.

Cost of living crisis, immigration crisis, Housing crisis, Class crisis to name a few,
Does it justify riots, absolutely not especially after what happened on Monday.
But a lot of people are fed up of this country and our useless governments.

Perhaps we need a 'native homeland'. Some part of Lincolnshire would be ideal. All the people who want to live in 1955 could move there.

No internet allowed, of course. Just two TV channels in black-and-white and social pressure to attend church each Sunday. After all, who wants social change?

Just fence it off with a 20-foot fence and let them have their English purity.

You (semi) jest but white-flight is a reality. Be it to places such as those you describe or further afield. I don’t think they have an atavistic desire for the England of the ‘50s or ‘60s but they have had enough of the growing influence of Muslims and don’t wish to live with them.
