Free speech is great in principle but it does look like we have cornered ourselves into this never ending quest for moral and intellectual dominance. Ideally you would want both (multi?) sides of any discussion presented in a sober coherent measured way backed up by facts. What seems to happen is that people become emotionally attached to their own opinion in an unhealthy way. Our whole ego and mental well being seems directly linked to 'winning' arguments and we pretend that we care whereas the real purpose is the intellectual thrill of winning. (Why spend time debating when you could make a real difference by spending that time volunteering?)
Long term, I think this means that many, many people are nowhere near compatible with each other and no amount of political change will ever solve that. Left wing in power = Right wingers upset, Right wingers in power = Left wingers upset.
Finally, for me, I'm not in favour of locking toxic threads but I will be taking a few months off politics threads for my own mental health!

If all the non-white people in the NHS fucked off, those waiting lists would shoot up by ten times or more. And that's just one area.

A lot of the fear and hatred is created by malevolent actors stirring the pot. Sure, there are extremists. But not all extremists are Muslim, not by a long shot. If they were it would be dead easy to sort out.

We live in a very, very complex society, and a percentage of any given group are cunts. That's a fact. Do you imagine that in (say) the 19th century when there was hardly a black face to be seen (contrary to modern TV) that there were no cunts doing evil shit? I grew up in Gorton in the sixties. Myra Hindley went to the same hairdresser as my Mum. Myra was white and a 'Christian' but she and that twat Brady (also white) were as bad as anyone you can name, of any background.

Plenty of people have expressed their sympathy and discussed the poor victims.
