UK far right trouble

Videos are doing the rounds on social media of a male, arrested near the vigil in Southport last night armed with a large knife/machete.

This apparently setting up what went on

It wasn't quite true.

A person was arrested but claims that he was on his way to the vigil to hurt people was bullshit.

He also didn't have a machete, it was a pocket flip knife.

People on twitter and elsewhere were lying, because they are far right numpties who want to cause trouble.

They all have their own political agenda, which is thoroughly depressing.

15 or so years ago you used to get fairly balanced intelligent news in the Guardian and the Times but both of those papers are now full of the same dogmatic populist fodder as the tabloids. They're just chasing sales (or these days, paywall subscriptions) from their left and right wing political base rather than trying to do anything meaningful in terms of accurate news reporting.

IMO it has its big problems as an institution but for pure news reporting I tend to rely on the BBC.

The best book to read is the Beano. As true today as it ever has been.

He was more than likely on his way to Southend but got lost.

The claim is that what set off last nights riots was that another man was arrested on St Luke's Road carrying a large knife in an attempt to kill people at the vigil and the locals were infuriated and took that anger out on the nearby mosque. I think the "E E EDL" mob being there was always a given, but this incident will not have helped to calm down tensions.

It wasn't true.

He was arrested but not on the way to the vigil and he had a pocket flip knife, not a machete like the videos were saying.

Not sure if there was a direct correlation as a lot of them lot last night would've kicked off regardless, but it definitely happened yes:

He’s was arrested wearing a Balaclava and carrying a knife short distance from vigil, yes that’s frightening as to what he was planning but I think those rioting knew what they were going to do long before they arrived

All the extremists seem to have a god. You never heard about athiest strongholds being sieged by agnostics.
Remind me what god Adolf, Joe Stalin and Mao worshipped.

Because between them they had a reasonably impressive record for murdering people. As did Pol Pot. I don't think he was a Methodist either.

As a kid 40 years ago I used to walk around Moss Side, Rusholme, Levenshulme and Cheetham Hill, plenty of cultural differences then, and it was superb to see.

Next time you go to a hospital or nursing home see how many local whites are working there taking care of the sick and infirmed, not so many in my experience, we have to bring in people from all over the world to do so and then certain people in our society call them out and treat them like scum, shame on them.
40 years ago It wasn't advisable to walk round those places you mention at night, absolute no go areas for those that didn't live there and amongst the highest crime rates in the North West, especially Moss Side. Think time had played a trick on your memory.

I do think the law enforcement communication needs to be a bit smarter for internet age because people are feeling things are being hidden/covered-up and so information gap will be filled by untruths/twitter bollocks. To be fair the Police Statement did (eventually) say the **** was born in Cardiff.
Oh come on, I'm no apologist for the police but if they put out a quick statement and it later turned out to be incorrect you'd be complaining about that. They have to verify the info before releasing it to the media, even in the digital age that can take time.
