Imagine when they study the details how angry the Tory Government will be with the shambles that was set up by a Tory Government and repeatedly sold to the public by successive Tory Governments as the best thing to have done as what a Tory Government had done was way way better than before..............Brexit anyone?

We can’t have a nationalised railway in England but the Dutch, French, Italian and German state owned railways can win concessions to run trains here - and then plough their profits back into their own state owned rail networks.

The signalling system around Stockport is so old, technicians had to be brought in from India to service it.

The west coast mainline, still using Victorian engineering no one in the UK is qualified to work on.

I believe the various junctions around Stockport still have mechanical interlocking. There was a plan to replace three or four signal boxes with one and install 'modern' replacements, but it turned out to be too complex, or expensive, or whatever.

So they had to persevere with mechanical interlocking which is 'old hat' and which modern signalling engineers in this country were not trained to design - at least not for complex installations. So there was no choice but to bring in people from India, where such technology is understood.
