UK Rail network to be nationalised

It’ll be fucked like every other Nationalised industry

Network rail being rebranded for doing the same shit they've been doing for years to justify possibly 9,000 jobs being cut and taking on the private firms debt onto the public purse. Whilst private companies spunk away tax payers money and cut their own staff to get a bit more.

The "radical" fare changes seem to be offering monthly season ticket instead of 6 month one.

when the East Coast Mainline was handed back into public ownership by failing franchisees the customer satisfaction ratings went up - it was more efficient and made a profit enough to hand money back to the treasury rather than just amble along providing a shit service and getting government subsidy when it was in private hands. That sort of fucked you mean?

So you are around 85 years old then if you have a balanced view or 75 years old if you were a train spotter who loved steam trains and was gutted that the railways were nationalised that year because it was the end of your beloved choo choo's

BR carried on building steam engines until 1960. One reason was that there were huge railway workshops employing thousands, virtually none of which had the machines or the skills needed to build or maintain anything else. Back then maintaining full employment was an A1 priority for governments (whether Tory or Labour) and it took a long time to resolve this issue.

It's all very complex and part of the general economic fuck-up of this country post WW2, which was not down to any single player. I recommend the works of Corelli Barnett which cover the muddled thinking and outdated attitudes of our 'leaders' very well. Anyone interested should read his books as they dispel many illusions about politicians, (both sides) to say nothing of industrial 'management' and trades unions.

Unfortunately, some of these outdated attitudes still apply, and indeed some that we had grown out of have even had a resurgence. My honest opinion is that the wonder is not that this country is in a mess, but that it still bungles on from year to year, like an old car with bits falling off as it moves along and even tries to persuade itself it's a world power while having an army (really a defence force) that would fit inside Wembley.

Paid back 9bn directly to the treasury and rising per year.

Torys renationalistion of the railways bad

Do you think maybe people complaining were bothered about the detail of the plan and not just the headlining grabbing slogans of nationalisation?

It's not nationalisation.

It's a rebrand of the system we have now with the debt shifted onto the public books so the private companies can scoop the cash.

Staff, passengers and taxpayers will pay for it.

Ask Damian Green if he was part of the plan?

The Tory MP been paid £40,000 in "Rail consultancy fees" by one of the private operators that are already benefiting from it whilst pleading poverty in communications with staff and unions.
