UK Rail network to be nationalised

another Labour "unaffordable" policy adopted. Imagine when they study the details how angry the Tory Government will be with the shambles that was set up by a Tory Government and repeatedly sold to the public by successive Tory Governments as the best thing to have done as what a Tory Government had done was way way better than before..............Brexit anyone?
One would think you’d actually be happy but still not.

Maybe, but it was underfunded ab initio. 1948 Labour

Believe that if you want to .... but thats not what my parents / grandparents say. It was a wonderful service, prompt, clean and value for money taking families to the coast for their jollies. Pleasure to travel on.

It wasn't until the Tory Government of 1963 who appointed Richard Beeching to review the railways that it all went tits up. He cut 67000 jobs, 55% of stations and a third of the rail network

I tend to agree, but there will probably be some useful changes, such as the introduction of carnet tickets.

Going off the "Return to the Office" thread, a number of employers will be moving towards requiring the staff to be in the office 2-3 days per week, so a carnet style book of tickets will suit those people much better than the current rail seasoncard system

Are carnet tickets anything like clipper cards if so I'm in

Complete nonsense. Usual problem, politicising eveything from partisan point of view.
Beeching butchered the railways but the wonderful service from 1948 is mythical. I was there.

And destroyed some incredibly valuable infrastructure that could have been a valuable part of a future green economy The McMillan Tory government was full of road builders and road hauliers who knew exactly what they were doing - destroying large chunks of the rail network.

So you are around 85 years old then if you have a balanced view or 75 years old if you were a train spotter who loved steam trains and was gutted that the railways were nationalised that year because it was the end of your beloved choo choo's
