Oh dear. We all want idealism, but you know what? Time doesn't stand still. We are in '59 no more. You have get on with it. So if 'guinnessdaze' isn't harping on about a time when immigration was low compared to now, why is his post in this thread and he's not created a nostalgia thread to suit his needs??

You have governments to blame for a system that has been going since 1919. You can mainly blame Thatcher for gutting the apprenticeship scheme for young people.

Who doesn't respect the soldiers? The odd few extremists whose land the soldiers fight in? The only other disrespect shown is to the government by the people who disagree with the reason to occupy a foreign land with our children.

Well, there was no internet then, so I dunno what you're talking about, but PORN has been existence since ability to put pictures on a page. If you hide it from your kids, like then, there shouldn't be a problem. After all, if you go looking, you find. As in, back in the day, in your father's shoe box, under the mattress, on the top shelf of a cupboard OR even when your mates, at school bring the pages found in a skip!

The 'soppy Lib Dems' - a breed of their very own!

The lib dems seem to me to cover a political spectrum which goes from being quite far to the left of labour to making you TGR look like a bit of a pinko. so saying they are a breed of their own is a bit like saying that the human race is a breed of its own. It covers all sorts, and there isn't a single poster in the cellar (you included) whose opinions would be out of place in the lib dems.

So stop being such a soppy lib dem and deal with the fact that you are a soppy lib dem yourself.

Maybe you should consider going back further, to a time when the indigenous people didn't think they were too good for the menial jobs around and therefore there not being a need to open the borders for other nationalities to do these jobs for the country??

OR, even better still, check your own heritage, cos matey, the odds are very high that YOU are, indeed, an immigrant too, by default...

When Internet porn didn't hit your kids from every angle. When the NHS was run properly and so on. guinnessdaze never mentioned race, immigration or anything like it. YOU did!

Capitalism LIKES a reasonable degree of unemployment. It keeps wages and inflation down. It's called the NAIRU. Marx called it the industrial reserve army over a hundred and fifty years ago. It's basic economics. You cannot defeat unemployment with MORE capitalism.

Exactly. These apparent 'problems' are actually meant to be there, it's how it works.

Do you not find it frustrating, being educated in politics, yet having to continually explain the basics to posters who's knowledge goes no further than the 3rd page of The Sun/The Star. (not aimed at you Elanjo, or anyone in particular, I'm being general).

It must be like being at a match where no one knows the offside rule and are fuming because it isn't 23556-3435 yet you're sat there knowing exactly why it's 0-0. Does it make you feel smug or does it do the opposite and make you feel lonely?
