That's what I like about Farage = he's so multi-faceted that it's virtually impossible to run out of reasons to hate him.

I just wanted to gauge some opinions from our cellarites on this alternative party. What are everyone's views on them? Do they have any other valuable polices other than immigration? Will they ever get enough votes to push the Tories or Labour?

I'm undecided on them, mostly because I know little about them. I do believe they're not like the BNP though.

It is possible to be anti immigration and not racist, not all UKIP members will be racist but how many are no one knows, the sad truth is people will vote for them as they don't have other options

No they are not Thatcherite, Thatcher took us further into Europe even if she had reservations. Thatcher was neo-liberal, they are paleoconservatives.

At the beginning she did. But I'm referring to 'Thatcherite' post Bruge. In her Bruge speech she essentially raised the flag of Eurosceptism, that Conservative Associations and parts of the PCP (Major's Bastards) rallied around, eventually that spawned Jimmy Goldsmith's Referenendum party, the fore runner of UKIP. Thatcher was neo-liberal right wing on economics but socially conservative. Cameron and Osborne are neo-liberal on economics but socially liberal.


It's also important to remember it's not just some of the right wing who are Eurosceptic, it was Old Labour that was originally opposed to EU membership, especially Bennites. Tony Benn has always been Eurosceptic on the democratic deficit issue.

Wrong on so many counts.

When you look at her policies toward Europe, education, the economy, healthcare, UK industry, immigration and Northern Ireland throughout her political career you can quite clearly see she is neither neo-liberal, socially conservative or paleoconcervative, she was actually a despicable and contemptible ****.

A straight talker.

In The Know, perhaps there are some similarities between the two, Thatcher did say that there was no such thing as society and paleo-cons like UKIP are afraid of the state and big government. It isn't a neat comparison but the US parties have a similar outlook, the fed gov is the EU, whilst issues like fox hunting become like the right to bear arms.

You are right on that point, Farage was on the news pledging his support for Syrian Rufugees to be allowed into the UK. If he was honest about that then he is not racist, however they attract racists to their membership with their outlook, even if their polices are not explicitally racist. If people want to vote for them then that is their right, even racists get the chance to win votes in our illusion of democracy. You are right about Labour, representative democracy relies on there being a real difference between parties, that hasn't been the case for a while now.

Non that's the point, you are either against immigration and Johnny Foreigner or you're not. Farage is a clever fella I know that but he's been blighted with butters and always will be, a washy washy don't bother party end of. The sooner they disappear the better
