In 1996 there wasn’t social media and forums to slag off the manager, criticise every single decision, pages and pages of people moaning about certain players not being picked, rushing to post about how ‘shit’ we are if we’re not winning after 5 minutes.

It was a feel good tournament because everyone just got behind England and didn’t give a sh*t who played for who.

1996 was the last tournament that England looked truely convincing against stronger opponents throughout the tournament. The only hiccup was the opening fixture vs Switzerland. They did get slated during the build up.

certain posters have become football purists. If we don’t play attacking football all the time it’s not good enough. If city had beaten Chelsea and played defensively the same people wouldn’t be moaning.

anyway looking forward to the next game. Denmark will be tough!

When you you have a vested interest and the adrenaline is flowing, you don't really notice the quality of the football. What you might consider the dullest and most boring game of football will totally absorb me if it is City of England playing.

I think Foden is England's most naturally talented player. But, he plays in Raheems position and Raheem has so far been England's best player. Grealish also plays in Raheems position. The formation and tactics from Southgate have worked, we are in our second consecutive semi finals. Why would we try to shoehorn 3 players who play in the same position, into the team, when what we are doing is working? Southgate is not a club manager, he does not get to train these players every day, year after year. He has done extremely well to gel them together and instil a fantastic team spirit, in the limited time he has had with them.

If Scotland were in this semi final and had not conceded a goal on the way, you would be wanking your box off.

Good post and I get what you're saying. I do think you could add them and change the formation behind them. Both of them picking up the ball in the opposition half, can beat only one player and it opens up. The Italians are brilliant defensively, they get close and it's in these situations class can get by them. I also agree about if it were us how I would be reacting, but, that's mainly because we are shit. You arent. Getting out of the group and I'd be shagging a barbers floor. I just honestly think when you meet Italy, you need players who can beat a man and rattle them. It also draws defenders to them and gives Kane more space. I know he won't change it. Well he will when Italy are ahead and you're getting nowhere breaching them. It might be too late, but for me putting them on the back foot from the off would be my preference.

Nothing wrong with being a purist either. This team is capable of a being lot better. If England had taken apart Germany like they had done either 2001 or like they did against Netherlands in 1996 then I would be more convinced they can win the whole thing.

Did really well last night but you should be doing against a poor team ........ I watched there game against Austria and was amazed they even got out of the group I think Wednesday is gonna be a massive step up for us

will be a very tough game.

yet should we win, so many will come out saying ‘it’s only Denmark’ ‘we should be beating these easily’ ‘wait till we play Italy/Belgium’ etc etc.

I know its stating the obvious but it's tournament football who cares how you get the result or who plays. I wouldn't care if Dan James scored a goal off his arse if it got Wales the win and I'd cheer for the bastard till the cows came home. I quite like that Stones isn't getting the spotlight as I think he's at his best when he can just quietly go about his business. I have seen loads of praise for the City players the night of the Germany game the amount of clips of Walkers sprint to get back to put Muller off was unbelievable. If you win City players will have played a huge part of it and will deserve their medals as will their team mates which is all that matters at the end of the day. They seem a pretty likeable bunch which makes it easier for me to get behind them.
( I may withdraw this if you win though because the media will be bloody unbearable ;) )
