I remember him scoring a phenomenal goal for Northern Ireland against Germany.

As you say, just 500k and going to Strasbourg seemed an odd transfer at the time.

Definitely Bellamy. It would have been great to have got him a couple of years earlier than we did. Also, Gareth Barry was underappreciated when he was here. It was only after he left that a lot of fans realised his importance to the team. Going back a bit, Andy Hill and Niclas Jensen. And Spencer Prior in that promotion season under Royle.

Especially given the useless snail we replaced him with for £150k more, Groenendijk (Hughes was actually sold for just £400k)

Peter Reid did say though that Groenendijk could open a tin of peas with his left foot, so he wasn’t completely useless.
