Sounds like the typical bullying British manager, thick as pigshit!
I've recently been working for the NHS in Manchester, and I would challenge any manager out there to be as incompetent and inept as a NHS manager. I've not seen a more piss poor set up in my life.

All part of a cunning plan, private health companies could not compete with NHS, the solution was to simply sabotage it by putting a load of thick cnuts in charge and hey presto! job done. Similarly, this happened with the British aircraft industry, just introduce a load of buffoons into top jobs and Voila!

My missus works in the IT Industry and whilst chewing the fat over an Indian tonight, she tells me she has been told in no uncertain terms by her senior managers that she cannot join a union. Is this right?? Seems a bit suspect to me but being a right wing nut job I have no knowledge of such things. I know that some on here will be a font of knowledge about this so would appreciate your comments, derogatory or otherwise.

Ha, those senior managers can get to fuck. The law says so.

Join that union with no fucks given. The company can do nothing. If they try to push it, they'll get bumfucked in court. Your girl's safe mate.

Taken from the TUC main page :

What do trade unions do?
Trade unions are organised groups of workers who come together to support each other in the workplace, negotiating with employers to improve pay, terms and conditions and ensure fair and equal treatment.
Unions provide members with individual advice and representation, and many also offer their members opportunities for personal and professional development. For more about the benefits that unions can bring, check out our report 'The Union Advantage'.
Can I join a trade union?
Yes. You have a legal right to join a union if you wish to do so and you can't be disadvantaged in any way at work just because you are a union member.

Even if a company does not recognise unions you can still join one.

The union will be able to acompany you at disciplinary or grievance proceedings and the fact that the company does not recognise the union for collective bargaining purposes is irrelevant.

Thanks for all the sound advice, I have to admit to being a union basher in the past but this was based on Ignorance and the fact they fund the Labour party I suppose, the way things seem to be going in the workplace I think we need them more than ever now..

I don't want to subvert the topic because the OP has asked for an got what appears to be pretty sound advice but this last post got me to thinking.

I am pretty anti union on the whole, partly because the main information / interaction I have with them is as a commuter in London and Bob Crow and the militant RMT. But, given the state of the economy and the corrupt government I am beginning to see the benefit in Unions in maintaining some element of balance of power between the workers and the owners of production. BUT they cannot be militant and unreasonable.

Tube drivers get paid £43,000 but have been on strike regularly in the last 2/3 years - that is ridiculous and the militancy of Bob Crow and the RMT has, IMO, done significant damage to the modern Union movement.

I agree with you with regard to the tube, I travel on it daily and Bob Crowe does have a lot to answer for, he is the worst example I believe and a typical militant champagne socialist.. Aside from that I stand by my post and I am starting to lean towards agreeing that Unions are needed more than ever in our workplace.
