Except in the 1999-2000 season when the withdrew from the Cup to play in some tin-pot World Club championship (purely for money). The following season they were allowed back in at the Third round stage when IIRC the rules at the time regarding seeding for the cup were based on the previous seasons performance in the cup. As they didn't field a team, they should have been made to start in the 1st round with all the non-league clubs. I'm sure the rules were changed for them.

They were given an exemption by the FA who wanted them to take part in the World Club pointlessness.

Yes, it gave Utd some beneficial exposure, but the FA used them to try getting favour internationally (I think for a World Cup bid). They only withdrew after being given an exemption, they didn't just do it unilaterally.

So the scum have come down to betting everything on red in a cup final , just like their esteemed captain would do in a casino . Is it me or does that seem a big gamble on the scum as an organization ? If it all goes wrong and they lose (please God!)then they really are up shit Creek without a paddle, I cannot believe that the upper management and money men at the scum have sanctioned this all eggs in a basket scenario, unless of course they know it's a safe bet?

Come on it's a bit of a myth isn't it? After the draw with us they were proclaiming it a great point in the battle for the enivitible 4th spot. Then they bottled it against Swansea and he started spinning the line of not bothered anyway. They've all bought it hook line and sinker and now it's being peddled to the masses by his pals in the media. It's genius on his part if they beat Ajax. He's basically got a free pass for all these w@nk performances they keep putting in. It's very clever.

To be fair I spoke with a lot of reds yesterday and they are fed up with the miserable cxxt
I said when he was at Chelsea I heard everyone of them say " I couldn't watch that every week "
They held their hands up

Seems they are going to buy James from Real Madrid. Great if true, he is not going to solve their problems, and will cost a fortune.

Typical city would lose both our matches, allowing Arsenal and Liverpool to take the CL places, the scum to win EL and qualify for CL and for us to be back in EL next season with Thursday night footie. Wonder what odds you could get at the bookies for that?

I think it's more that the hacks don't want to annoy either him or Utd. Utd would need a credible alternative if they even thought about sacking him (Simeone, perhaps). He may be increasingly bizarre, but he is still a big name manager, and he may bring things round in time, even if it's not pretty.

INstead, they've been given free rein to go after Roooney - I doubt the Sun and Mirror would have gone so big on that without official sanction from Utd.

Gill was the Financial Director at the time. I wonder what influences he brought to this deal?

I'll add 20% onto whatever odds they give you mate, your money would be better in my pocket.

Definitely! Said this to my brother yesterday – the Rags want him out and off the pay, but he doesn't want to go anywhere - why would he, he'll not get over £300,000 a week anywhere else!?! So they start this smear campaign to force him out!

Spot-on, most of them have developed amnesia regarding that point... and if anything, his football has got worse at the Rags – I will be very surprised if he's there at the end of next season tbh!
