I wanted to start a new thread on this but i don't seem to have permission..

Do you think we still have an inferiority complex compared to the rags and if so when do you think it'll end?

The reason I ask is that is that I regularly see comments (and I too am guilty of this) comparing us to the rags. We finish 3rd in the league or say QF of CL and instead of comments about how far we've come or that we should be aiming to win it, it's not unusual to see comments such as "well at least we finished above the rags" or "they weren't even in the CL".

How long before we really, genuinely don't care and just focus on our own selves? How long before success is measured against say real madrid rather than a team that finished 6th? We've been a big team now for a fair few years now.

I think we do to an extent, but its understandable.
They are the most successful club in England in terms of trophies won, therefore they are the benchmark.
If and when we get close to that record if we still compare ourselves to them, then that will be a problem. We then should be looking to match the international top dogs (currently Real, Barca, Bayern)
Equally if someone domestically overtakes United and we still compare ourselves to united, instead of the new top dog, then thats a problem

This will always be the way. It's a bit like Spurs and Arse. There are loads of London clubs but they will always reference themselves against the other.

I'm 25 and we've finished above United 5 times in my lifetime.

If we finish above them another 4 years in a row then we'll probably stop remarking on it, but you've got to admit it's still a fairly new thing.

I don't think it's a inferiority complex to compare ourselves to the rags. They also do it now.
I think it is more to do with not giving them any ammunition to throw at us. Ie we have had a shit season really only just scraping third, "but at least we finished above them" etc.
This means no matter how many (minor) trophies they "claim" to have won, we were still better than them over the season. They know this and it keeps them quiet, for the time being at least.

We should just be happy that nearly every single "The United Way" myths have now been exposed/banished...

Well i may be old school but coming from Manchester the only team i hate and want to beat and be above is the rags, so i do care in that sense always want them to loose and fuck things up anything so i can laugh at them, as they have done to us for many years, its all about banter and taking the piss out of each other, and long may our current position of being above them continue. i have always wondered what it would be like to be a one team AREA ( was going to say city but we know the answer to that ) like leeds or newcastle, much prefur it this way.

For many, many years, United used to highlight two teams in the league table in bold in their match programme. Them and us. It's nothing new, and they compare themselves to us just as we do to them.

I'm looking forward to watching us beat their new team next season, so far I have counted 18 players they are buying, same old shit, of course the ones that don't want any part of their vile club are no longer wanted anyway.... !
